I heard them bragging over the weekend that since the SEC requires members to play a P4 team in the non-con, their 8 conference games are “just the same” as other conferences playing 9.

How else will you get classic November matchups like Alabama-Mercer, Oklahoma-Maine, South Carolina-Wofford, both Mississippi State AND Georgia hosting UMass, or Texas A&M-New Mexico State? Iron sharpens iron, gotta get those key high-stakes non-conference battles in right before playoff time.
Don't forget our old friends, Mizzou, and how they have an opportunity to get right back on track this week, facing mighty UMass!

While I agree with you, a Big 12 team beat a B10 team the last time the two conferences faced off in the CFP.

Didn’t seem to help perception. It’s a large hurdle to climb
Winning helps only to a certain point, but the bias remains. The B1G and SEC are primed for success, the media attention and rankings they receive, and the money they are paid, etc.

A win here or there by an ACC or Big 12 team (or any other team, for that matter) against a P2 team is merely a small pebble in the road to absolute FB dominance, that they wish to attain.

I was just on CBS sports - football, their home page. I counted ALL of their many articles, at the moment to be either about the SEC or the B1G, except for 2 (which were ACC). There was not a single article directly related to the Big 12. Bias. Strong bias. It is constant and overwhelming.

The ACC and Big 12 will get a bone or a scrap thrown their way on occasion. However the table is clearly set for the P2.

Would have helped if TCU didn’t immediately go 5-7 the following year and get obliterated by Georgia the following game. Made the game seem more like a fluke unfortunately and the respect shorter lived then it should be sadly

In all seriousness, Monday after a weekend like that, what Big 12 headlines are there to write that a national fan would care about? A lot of teams had byes, Iowa State the highest rated team won a game comfortably that they were suppose to win. It was a pretty mild week.

SEC had 3 top 10 teams lose, Big 10 had some upsets and a looming top 5 game this weekend.

ACC has a ref gate problem that is starting to become a topic.

Remember they cater to a national, casual fan that they still need to be interested in the articles.

Sure. If you say so.

I'll wait for another day. In the meantime, I am happily able to read 4 articles about Arkansas, and a couple more indirectly about Arkansas. Go Hogs!

It will be similar when deciding upon the CFP. Sure, they will have to allow the ACC and Big 12 at least 1 participant each. Those having a vote in the matter, who have P2 bias, will begrudgingly allow more only if they are forced to.

Maybe we'll get a scrap or bone tomorrow.

I guess you didn’t want to offer up what article you’d be writing today if you were a national media member.

Some are choosing to enjoy the 5-0 start and being ranked #11. Others are getting upset by lack of Big 12 articles on CBS and dwelling on the playoff bids.

Choose your own adventure at Iowa State.

I am enjoying the ride that Iowa State is on, make no mistake.

I am not enjoying what college athletics is turning into. There are certain advantages for us right now, this year, and maybe the immediate next few years. Two that I can think of, are the chances for us to go to the CCG, and the chances for us to make the playoffs. Both have increased. That's good.

What has decreased, and will continue to decrease each year, as I see it, is our ability to stay relevant as a conference. The money overwhelmingly supports the P2. That is the big picture, and will be the dominant picture, unless things change.

Neither here nor there but the CW has to be absolutely thrilled with those numbers in comparison to what they usually get.

Their sports gambles are paying off.

Part of the reason I think a small super League won't happen. Yeah the Big 12 might not pull too tier SEC numbers but they still pull good numbers and are a large chunk of inventory. Live sports are still very consistently viewed on TV and I don't think it makes sense for these networks to kneecap a good portion of the top few leagues to try and optimize for the top brands. You lose a large chunk of your inventory and now some of your large brands start losing a lot and their shine wears off.

That's my optimistic view. Pessimistic is immediate money trumps all

This whole debate is a silly argument. Yes, Iowa benefitted from a weak B1G West for years. Just as ISU played in a weak Big 12 North. At least Iowa made hay with their schedule, while we never got over the hump.
I kind of hate this Big12 North was weak mantra. Go back and look at the history. For a decade, Nubs, KSU, and Colorado were seriously successful programs while OuT and A&M languished. Pasted in the history, its a mess, but you can see how tough the North was for quite some time.

'04-05 it was very bad just in how the overall records were. That was the end of Snyder's first reign and a rebuild, then Nebraska was similar as was CU.

It ticked back up. That 2007 Missouri team was something else and they would have continued to do well in the SEC had Pinkel been able to stay with it.
