Both Ankeny teams advance. As an Ankeny resident, I'm happy Ankeny divided into two high schools several years ago, but I can't help wondering what an athletic power they would have been if they hadn't split in half.

There is only so many spots. Wouldn’t you rather more kids get the experience instead of trying to be west des moines

Valley went through this 20+ years ago and did the opposite of Ankeny - decided to stay together as one school rather than split up - and while they've had plenty of success they haven't been nearly as dominant as one would have guessed given their numbers.

Watching SEP. Already up 35-0 with a few min left in the 1st half. Linn Mar has 1 first down I believe.
It’ll be interesting to see how SEP finishes this year. Their #1 RB (CJ Phillip) is out for the season with a broken toe. Moberly is damn good and so are the receivers - newly minted Iowa State PWO Carson Robbins and Sam Zelenovich (he’s a junior) - but Phillips has been very, very good the last half of the season. The backup RB is still good, but not as shifty/dynamic as Phillip. Once they get to the other big dogs, a complementary running game will be important.

I appreciate whoever sent Roland-Story on a 3.5 hr drive to northwest Iowa just to lose 49-0 in the freezing cold.

Just look at the 5A quarters. Bettendorf the only school left outside of the Des Moines area that might be “favored”, and I bet Centennial wins that game.

How did the balance of power shift so dramatically?
