So much of it depends on how other teams in the conference trend in the off-season.

SDSU - Win. You have to beat FCS teams. Period.
@ Iowa- Win. TOE loses Wadley, VandeBerg, and all 3 starting LBs. Rivalries are weird and inherently hard to predict.
OK - Win. Baker not there to carry Mike Stoops terrible defense.
Akron - Win. Get up by 3+ scores and chew clock.
@TCU - Loss. Gary Patterson defense is always tough
@OSU - Loss. Lose Rudolph, Washington, Ateman, and 3 OLine, BUT Gundy knows how to reload
WVU - Loss. Will Grier is a dangerous man.
Tech - Win. So long Kliff.
@Kansas - Win. So long Beaty.
Baylor - Win. Better team than this year, but Matt Rhule has a ways to go with this team
@ Texas - Loss. Year 2 of Tom Herman should see UT back in B12 contention.
KSU - Win. Slay the Vampire. Finally.

So, 8-4 with a bowl game. Though in year 3 of Campbell, I don't think any of these games are certain loses. The floor with next years team looks to be 6 wins, and with the talent returning have a ceiling of B12 title game.

I am sure I am not the first to say this in this thread, but my expectations for 2018 are the same as the coaches and players.

They also lose their best RB, their FB, their two best offensive linemen, their best defensive linemen (by far), and both safeties. They rely almost entirely on their offense, their defense is below average in the FCS.

UNI next year will be a better team than SDSU.

They also somehow manage to employ a coach worse than Mark Farley. I'd still be weary. They have a ton of cash up there, they and NDSU, obviously, have just simply passed UNI.

I love the home schedule. Perennial poor road teams Tech, and Baylor at JTS. SDSU/Akron (?). Should win all 4 of those.

Road toss up games, now at home... KSU & WVU. OU early with a new QB.

A lot of high profile QBs are graduating this year. I could see 2018 as not quite as solid of a team, but with a good chance to go 8-4. I chose 7-5 in poll.

Usually this is the time of year I'm least optimistic, and I'm chugging the kool-aid right now.

Pumping the breaks for 8 months is going to wear me out

I think we have to go 6-1 at home and then steal a couple more on the road

I have been a Cyclone fan since I was 5. I am now 51. For the first time ever, I feel like we could win every game on our schedule. I know that won't happen, but wow. OU at home and unproven QBs throughout the Big 12 should help us some. Hoping for 8 wins.

Given how well that this staff has the team prepared, they again should be in every game. 8 wins during the regular season to me is the logical next step as it incrementally improves on this year...trusting the process.

I think next year is going to be a crazy year for football and basketball. I really hope we beat OU at home. It'd be epic to beat them 2 years in a row. Unfortunately they have a Mayfield 2.0 in Kyler Murray.

Hard to have an opinion before spring practice. Not sure what it will be like without Lanning and Lazard. I could see us struggling to get 6, or cruising to 8. Coach will have a hard time matching this team's "can-do" attitude.

Here's Athlon's take for next season ...

Iowa State

iowa-state-cyclones.png
The Cyclones showed marked improvement in coach Matt Campbell’s second year by finishing 8-5 and earning a victory over Memphis in the Liberty Bowl. Another step forward in 2018 is within reach, especially with running back David Montgomery leading the way on offense.
