Didn't see another thread on this. Please merge if there is....

Seeing youngster Jacob Bolton inserted into the 2-deeps got me thinking about next season. My predictions are based off who is currently starting or backing up, as well as my best guess in other areas.....
-Obviously QB could be an unknown depending on Park's status.
-Even with the losses of Lazard, Murdock, and Ryen, exciting to have plenty other experienced offensive weapons.
-Really need the OL to develop and running game to progress.
-When is the last time we had this much proven DL depth coming back? I know the 3-man front has been real good vs spread teams, but could we see a shift back toward a 4-man front and hope they don't need any blitzing help? Let them attack more instead of containing?
-Who can fill the starting spots from KCM and Wilkerson at safety?
-Owens and Downing have been real solid, need guys to step up. Ryen has also been very reliable as a punt returner.
The good news is there should be plenty of competition throughout the team, that will make guys better.

You're forgetting a few guys and have some positions switched around at the moment. Bryce Meeker will almost certainly be a starter, and there are some more RS players that will contribute. It's hard telling where some grad transfers/JUCOs will be sought after as well (I'd guess we go after a QB, OL, and a DB).

Yep, forgot about Meeker. I will update.

Mike Warren?

It's clear the staff wants Montgomery out there as much as possible. And when he does come out, I think the staff likes other options. Even if Warren has worked hard since last season's disappointment, it seems the staff doesn't trust him as a secondary RB, whether that's due to ball security, pass blocking, etc. Pretty crazy to think after his great FR year.

I'll give my predictions. I will list 3, some times 4 guys because I believe you'll see the depth start taking it's place in 2018 (and quite honestly, there are a few spots that I am not sure of especially when you factor in the guys who are redshirting, and the 2018 class). The DL is hard to predict with how much these guys rotate when situational.

QB 1. Zeb Noland 2. Devon Moore 3. Re'al Mitchell ***I do think ISU takes a transfer at QB.
RB 1. David Montgomery 2. Kene Nwangwu 3. Johnnie Lang 4. Sheldon Croney/Mike Warren
WR 1. Hakeem Butler 2. Jalen Martin 3. Sean Shaw
WR 1. DeShaunte Jones 2. Tarique Milton 3. Carson Schleker
WR 1. Matt Eaton 2. Josh Johnson 3. Carson Epps
H-Back 1. Sam Seonbuchner 2. Unknown
TE: 1. Chase Allen 2. Dylan Soehner 3. Charlie Kolar
T 1. Sean Foster 2. Alex Kleinow
G 1. Oge Udeogu 2. Rob Hudson
C 1. Julian Good Jones 2. Colin Newell 3. Will Windham
G 1. Josh Knipfel 2. Jeff Nogaj 3. Josh Mueller
T 1. Bryce Meeker 2. Jacob Bolton

DE 1. Carson Lensing 2. Matt Leo 3. Dan Sichtermann/Angel Dominguez
DT 1. Ray Lima 2. Jamahl Johnson 3. Josh Bailey
DT 1. Eyioma Uwazurike 2. Kamilo Tongamoa 3. Tucker Robertson
LEO 1. JaQuan Bailey 2. Spencer Benton 3. Cordarrius Bailey
LB 1. Willie Harvey 2. O'Rien Vance
LB 1. Marcel Spears Jr. 2. Reggan Northrup
LB 1. Jake Hummel/Tymar Sutton 2. Bobby McMillen
CB 1. Brian Peavy 2. Arnold Azunna 3. Richard Bowens
CB 1. D'Andre Payne 2. D'Monte Ruth 3. Datrone Young
STAR 1. Keontae Jones 2. O.J. Tucker
S 1. Greg Eisworth 2. Jatairis Grant
S 1. Lawrence White 2. Braxton Lewis

The thing with hurt Warren is not his ability, it is the lack of an OL that can create holes. He was great his freshman year because CPR had a different blocking scheme, a couple of pretty good run blocking OL, and a running QB that took some of the pressure off him. Croney is a lot more physical than Warren, so he will get the snaps until ISU can actually block.

Good points. Warren is fast when he has time to run downhill, maybe make 1 cut and go. But with our OL right now we need guys who are incredibly shifty or who can break tackles.

I'm enjoying the heck out of 2017 ISU football!!!

But safety will be a HUGE question for next year... If they find safety help our defense could be elite with the best D line in ISU history? (low bar) I'd love to land and keep a offensive guard transfer for the run game next year!

Also having a new juco punter and freshman kicker might be rough

QB: Zeb, Moore, transfer? I don't think Re'al stays at QB since he got beat out for the starting job at his HS
RB: DM, Kene, Lang, who cars
WR: those listed above
OT: Foster, Hudson
OG: Oge/transfer
C: JGJ
RG: Knifel
RT: Meeker

Leo: J Bailey, Benton
NG: Lima, Kamilo Tongamoa
DT: Johnson/Eny,
DL: Eny/Lensing, Leo
W: Harvey, Vance
M: Sutton, Hummel/McMillan
S: Spears, Northrup
CB: Peavy
CB: Payne
Star: K. Jones
FS: ?? Lewis
SS: ?? Greg Eisworth

Some big losses from this year, some unexpected.
Lanning, Trent, Waggoner, KCM, Wilkerson, Campos, Lazard, Ryen, Murdock, Everett, possibly both starting QBs...a lot of leadership and big contributors to replace
