2018/19 Depth Chart predictions

Maybe but the odds of transfer OL being large contributors is so small. I mean, Catalina, Dawson and Rodgers aren't really odd scenarios. I think only Rodgers is even contributing. It's just a position where, if you put in 4 years and aren't going to play, there's probably a reason. I know that wasn't the case for Catalina but he wasn't all that great. I think next year there will be enough bodies where any transfer would be counted on for depth, not starters like this year.

QB is interesting if Park is in question. I know of a probable one who may not be starter material but he'd be a grad transfer with 2 years and a solid recruiting profile which includes a Toledo offer.
I think you’re overestimating our line. Rodgers is starting. Catalina was last year, but he is in the NFL this year. Dawson obviously quit, but he’d be playing this year for us if he wanted to. Imo the question isn’t whether those guys could help us, but whether we can get them.

I wonder if we see the staff go hard after the 5th years again, particularly on the offensive line and back 7 on defense. I think we could use at least a couple OL and defensive backs.

Also, I hope to see Noland get some series in the last 4 games.
They'll likely go after a transfer OL.

They already have a JUCO S committed and there are some good young players coming back that are safety candidates. That being said, if there are good players available as transfers I'm sure they will get a look.

I agree. Those guys would have helped this year but Rogers is starting on a bad team isn't proof he would have been all that much better here prior to the injuries. Dawson was never a shoe in to start. Michigan had a lot of trouble with OL when he was there and he never cracked the lineup.

My point is that I think there is a drastic change next year. I think there will be some guys with experience and guys with a lot of talent which we haven't had in the previous two years and it will be much harder for those transfers to be useful. We also have somewhat limited numbers at the moment. I just don't think a guy who can't make it somewhere else is necessarily going

the biggest issue for me has to be the two Safety positions, it seems like we worked a lot of depth in with grad-transfers(Everett, Wilkerson) and KCM, I know we have JUCO commit so far we really need some of the young ones to step up as well. RBIII, Keontae Jones, J. Grant..... Have not seen much of T. Daniels does anyone know if we are trying to get M-RS there too?

Lawrence White will start at one of those spots. The coaches really like him.

IMHO, I think it's a fine thing that Re-al Mitchell is enrolling in January. Winter workouts, spring ball, summer workouts. We'll see what we will see. His explosive quickness and speed is something to behold.

This young man is a quarterback. Tough, resilient, highly skilled, an outstanding competitor based on his game videos and his parental heritage.

Word is he's been hurt some this fall. True? Don't know. The 6-5, 240 soph QB could be the No. 1 QB in the 2020 class. If so, that does not mean Re-al is anything less than a superb QB prospect.

Me, I could see Re-al playing in 2018 in certain situations. He might have a certain package to run in situational spots, since he's a unique QB talent at iSu. We'll see.

I agree. Until he proves he absolutely cannot make even the most basic throws, you try him at QB. He seems to have a lot of those intangibles that you want in a QB. Obviously he's not a prototypical NFL guy, but all I care about is winning college games. If he doesn't work out at QB, he's a good enough athlete to move elsewhere.

Agreed.

I am excited about Mitchell. There is also a certain somebody in the NFL right now that is 5'11, has a decent (but not great) arm, that manages games and runs when he needs to.

I'm not comparing to two, but it's not impossible for Re'al to be a very good college QB.

What about Payne? Hate to move him as he's been playing well at corner this year, but he does have some experience playing that Star position. Could he make an easy move to Safety? It would be nice to keep him, Peavy, and Ruth at corner though. Seems the staff really likes Azunna, Bowens, and Jones too. Are they all corners?

That leaves White, DLC, Pickett-Brown, Grant, OJ Tucker, Richardson, Young, Webster. I think Braxton Lewis is a great candidate for that Star/Nickel spot. Got some size, not afraid to come down into the box. You also have some of the recruits coming in, hope Eisworth is legit.

Look at the kid at Arizona, Khalil Tate. He's got more size than Mitchell, but he is a dynamic QB as a runner. Not a huge throwing threat. If we can get the OL moving in the right direction, having a dual threat with a QB and RB working read-option can be dangerous. I don't like the read-option unless the QB is a great runner, like Mitchell.

There's also this guy who was a JuCo transfer to some college in the Midwest, he had a couple of good years there and then spent time as a backup in the NFL. He was about 5'11. He ran really well and passed great in college.

That's the thing with this staff, they really like DB's who can be flexible and play multiple spots.

My guess is that the rotation will look something like this.

CB: Peavy, Payne, Ruth, Azunna, Bowens, Jones.
STAR: Payne, Jones, Lewis
S: White, Grant, Eisworth, Lewis

Guys most definitely will move around, except for Peavy, and the SS/FS positions.

Pretty good guy to bring up (Tate).

My only thing is that one of our strongest position groups (and it will be again next year) is the WR corps. Have to have a QB who is more than capable of getting them the ball.

Going by published sizes, Re-al is a noodge taller than Seneca. Watch Re-al throw; iirc, his completion average is between 65%-70%.

I'm not shy about thinking it - or saying it - Re-al has the possibility of becoming Seneca 2.0.

Man, I hope we can get our Oline built up to like the 2009 group to go with the skill positions. This staff will have the offense rolling with a group like that. Eat up, young guys.

Can you imagine a talent like Senaca with THIS coaching staff?
I feel like Steve Brickey's offense really limited the potential that Seneca had. Once teams zeroed in on what we were running, they shut us down hard. I also feel like they tried to keep Seneca in the pocket more as the season went on, with poor results.
