My new Taurus has the Smart Key feature that prevents one from locking their keys in the car / trunk.
They manual says you can use the keypad on the outside Driver door to override the Smart Key and use the code to reenter the locked car.........That didn't work for me.... There are times I would like to lock my keys and valuable in the car -for example when I run.

Anybody familiar with disabling the Smart Key feature and just use the keypad code?

So the key pad doesn't work at all? Did you set your own code or is it still the factory one?

I think you accidentally got the Dumb Key feature instead. Do the keys have the Hawk logo on them?

The "factory" key pad code works fine for entering the locked car and locking the car. However if the keys remain in the car, the keypad will not over-ride the Secure Key as the manual states, so the car remains unlocked.

On my older Ford you could just push down the individual lock buttons on the car doors and then close the door and use the key pad to get back in. My newest doesn't have any buttons that actually move (up/down) when the doors are locked-just tiny red indicator lights. My manual says you can just simultaneously touch the bottom two buttons on the exterior of door and it will lock the car.

I need to sometimes leave my car running while the dog is inside (A/C on on a warm day). I had a heck of a time getting it to finally lock. I tried manually locking it first, turning off the ignition, opening the back doors and I finally DID get it to lock with the engine running, but alas, I don't remember the magical combination to do that.

Ahh....maybe I mis-read the manual; I bet this works! Thanks

If I leave the keys in the car and lock it a rapid beep goes off for a short period of time to let me know that I left the keys in the car. And the car automatically unlocks. That feature has saved me 3 times now.

If I leave the keys in the car and lock it a rapid beep goes off for a short period of time to let me know that I left the keys in the car. And the car automatically unlocks. That feature has saved me 3 times now.

At random times my Nissan freaks out in my garage when I leave the keys in it. "Hey car - you're in a garage with a window down. It's okay that I left the key on the passenger seat. Chill."

And then a couple times a year one of the 'smart' keys falls down between the seat and console, etc., and the black fob and black car interior gang up on me, making it hard to find. So, the car starts but I can't lock it because either I can't find the *$#@ key in the car, or I use fob #2 and the car has yet another panic attack and won't lock because fob #1 is still in some mysterious hiding spot in the car.

I'm not so in love with the smart keys. But, the good news is that I can manually override the lock on the door to lock a set of keys in it (Trickles does this when I'm picking it up after hours) or leave it locked and running.
