Brees, Rodgers and Brady are all playing out of their minds this season. They are all three deserving at this point, and to say any of them are running away with it, or that any do deserve a mention is crazy. Any one of their stat lines would have won just about any other year, problem is they peaked together and caused a log jam.

They're all winning games too, so that criteria is irrelevant. Edge to Brees. Lowest team expectations of the three.

NFL Stats: by Player Category

Brees has more yards and a higher completion percentage...

Brees has slightly fewer touchdowns and a few more interceptions...

Brees has a ton more completions and attempts than Rodgers...

Looks like they're about the same to each other, statistically. However, given the last category I highlighted there, I would probably go for Brees at this point.

Packers fans, feel free to hate.

Not going to hate, but it's definitely going to be tight.

Rodgers losing yesterday and looking terrible definitely doesn't help his case.

Brees should win it, he's going to break multiple single season records and his team is 11-3, with a god awful defense. This should be reason enough to win the MVP for him, but it won't be, because of the Aaron Rodgers lovefest that is ESPN. Rodgers is a great, great QB, and is having one of the best seasons of all time, but Brees is perhaps having THE greatest QB season of all time, and should be rewarded for it.

I don't hate him I hate the hype that is around him. The entire packers offense is great, take him out and their still scoring alot of points. This is the year that many records will be broken but none from him yet he is having on of the best seasons as a qb(and not bringing up Brady or Brees). Does that make much sense?

Rodger's deserves the credit for elevating the offense. Here's a good topic to consider...

Through 13 weeks, Rodgers ranks first in the NFL with an average of 9.4 yards per attempt and second in completion percentage at 69.6.

With three games remaining in the regular season, it's worth noting that Rodgers is not only throwing downfield with high frequency, but he is also completing those difficult passes at a higher rate, by a long shot, than any other QB.

Rodgers has thrown 43 passes this season that have traveled 21 or more yards in the air, tied for the ninth-highest total in the league. As the chart shows, he has completed 62.8 percent of them, substantially better than Tony Romo, Drew Brees and Andy Dalton. Rodgers' completion percentage on those deep throws is better than the rate on all throws for all but six other NFL quarterbacks.

Besides a veteran WR corp, I'm not sure how you can say the entire Packers offense is great. Besides Wells at center, the rest of the line holds less than 3 years in the NFL. There are probably 20-25 RBs in the league that would be taken over Grant or Starks. Rodger's is the front runner, and rightfully so, for the MVP.

Rodgers is going to break records and his team is 13-1, with a worse defense than NO in every category besides interceptions.

Rodgers has won the offensive player of the month in September, October and November. He played without 3 of their 4 OTs and his #1 receiver. Didn't have a TO in spite of dealing with tons of drops and 2 bogus Offensive Pass Interference calls

if this won an arguement for mvp then cutler should've won it last year. Their o line is still better then the bears and just because jennings is out doesnt mean their wrs are down, look how deep they are at that position not to mention finley.

I think he was responding to someone overreacting to one poor game (to Rodgers standards), not using that as an argument for MVP.

Also, Finley hasn't been the same this year. He's been dropping passes left and right. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Packers let him test the market instead of putting the franchise tag on him this off-season.

Rodgers has done more with how often he has thrown the ball. Brees has well over 100 more attempts than Rodgers this season (583 to 473 to be exact). Keep that in mind when comparing the stats so far:

Brees: 417-583 (71.5%), 4780-YDS, 8.2-YD/ATT, 37-TD, 11-INT, 109.1- RAT
Rodgers: 322-473 (68.1%), 4360-YDS, 9.22-YD/ATT, 40-TD, 6-INT, 120.1- RAT

Rodgers has more TD and a higher QB rating on far fewer attempts. Not to mention a much better TD/INT ratio and higher yards per attempt. The Packers have rarely trailed in a game this year, and have ran the ball frequently to run out the clock at the end of many of their games. Brees and the Saints have trailed more often, and thus have thrown the ball way more. You give Rodgers the attempts that Brees had, and we're talking a record breaking season on almost all levels.

All things considered, I still don't see how Rodgers doesn't win it with the Packers being 13-1. One thing I think people are forgetting, Rodgers out dueled Brees and the Saints way back in week 1. Looks like a rematch might be inevitable in the playoffs.

didn't the packers clinch the 1 seed or what is the scenario for that? Because if they did and they let rodgers rest the last 2 weeks then brees will pass him in everything except ints.

Need either 1 loss by San Fran or 1 more win to clinch.

Another reason you can't rely solely on stats to decide this award. Punish Rodger's for securing the #1 seed? Also, Saints are known to be a team to run up the score and pad stats. Brees was still in the game well into the 4th Q yesterday against the Vikings where as last week Rodgers was pulled midway through the 3rd Q.

So the packers lose and Rodgers numbers have dropped drastically over the past few weeks, is there a chance that Brees can win it as he continues to produce week after week? Yes I am a bears fan but i am tired of hearing how amazing Rodgers is but its their offense as a whole that are winning games not just him. Also Brees will break some records this year like the passing yards and perhaps completion while Rodgers will break what passer rating wow.

Well, there is quite a few. First is the fact that the Packers are 15-1 thanks to stellar play by Rodgers who was able to make up for a porous Green Bay defense all season. In fact, thanks to their final game of the season, the Packers' defense finished dead last in yards allowed with over 411 yards per game. Without Rodgers leading the way week after week, Green Bay would not be 15-1.

Rodgers sets himself apart from Brees and Stafford as a QB who can play in the cold weather of Green Bay. Brees and Stafford tuck themselves away in their temperature-controlled stadiums and don’t worry about the 30-40 mph winds that often strike in Green Bay.

A lack of turnovers is another reason why Rodgers is the best QB in the league. He finished the season with only six turnovers. Brady had 14, Brees had 15, Stafford had 17, and all three of them were near the bottom of the league. But no one came even close to protecting the ball the way that Rodgers did.

Maybe the most telling stat is the fact that while Rodgers finished fifth in passing yards, he finished 16th in pass attempts! While Stafford and Brees were attempting their 663rd and 657th passing attempt respectively on Sunday, Rodgers finished the year with only 502 passing attempts! Give Rodgers another 150 attempts and based on his averages he would have ended the season with 6,030 yards and 61 total TDs. Rodgers didn’t need to throw the ball 600+ times like Brady, Brees, and Stafford because he was so efficient in his throws down the field that he ate up yards in a fraction of the plays it took for other QBs to do the same.

One final item that often gets overlooked in the value of Rodgers when he scrambles. Rodgers added 257 yards and three scores on the ground this season. Only Newton, Tebow, and Vick had more rushing yards, and Brees, Brady and Stafford only combined for 16 more rushing yards than Rodgers.

Had Rodgers played in Week 17, this might not even be a discussion. He would have finished the season with around 5,300 total yards and 52 TDs. A game off allowed a few QBs to at least enter the MVP discussion. But when it comes down to the final voting, Aaron Rodgers is the 2011 NFL MVP
