Think you are referring to Jimmy Morris. Blew his knee out in practice and was never able to recover. Was a student coach last year and I do not know what capacity he will be in this year. In order for him to maintain his athletic scholarship, he must hold some sort of employment in the athletic department.

Anyone heard when Scales will be ready to go? I am excited to see how Johnson looks but it would also be nice to have Scales get some carries this year as well.

Scales may get some reps Thursday. My understanding is he is cleared to play. My guess is they will go light with him given his injury history

They may have hit all their field goals last year, but that guy graduated. They're breaking in a new kicker this year.

I hate too be critical, but I would think after 12 years Mac would have more depth instead of starting redshirt and true freshmen. I know injuries have taken it's toll......but still.

a combination of injuries and one high profile self-inflicted ejection from the team....you are tetering on the brink of having 3000 flamethrowers pointed in your general vacinity...do you have a fresh set of clothing that is resistant to the gentle lick of flames at your toes?

Do you think it is possible that recruiting has improved a lot since our 2-10 season and the talent that we bring in every year is just plain better than what we currently have? When you add it the situation with Jason B and Matt R, you are having to replace proven players with the next best available players. In this case, the next best available players are freshman. I don't have a problem with it. People don't realize how important assistant coaches are in recruiting. This years senior and junior class was recruited by several coaches that are no longer here and I can tell you for a fact that their recruiting was a HUGE reason they are no longer coaching in division 1 football. A lot of players in those two classes were not correctly identified as legit division 1 players and it is showing now when our freshman are beating them out for positions. Don't underestimate the power of having talented, young, energetic assistant coaches who like to recruit. I think we are seeing the windfall.

Good morning all,

I would be scared to death starting two true freshman along the D-line. I don't know how any Cyclone fan can spin this as a positive. It goes back to why I predicted a 6-6 record for ISU. Depth, Depth, and depth and your defense doesn't have it. I believe your defense will struggle if it remains healthy, but any more injuries and watch out it could get ugly.

Good luck again this year. I look forward to the game in the Jack. Maybe I will see some of you tailgating before the game.

I thank you for your much admired input...do tell...what are your observations of that little bit of trouble in the middle east? do you have any philisophical ramblings you wish to share regarding stem cell research? how about any dating tips you wish to bestow?
now....please return in haste back to hay-seed nation...the backdoor is open and god knows what is occurring in Lincoln

You should be scared to death about your own defense. Have you seen the YouTube highlight video of Kenny Wilson's scrimmage run? That is down right **** poor tackling.

Monkeybrow I really enjoy your posts, your sense of humor is refreshing. Yes, I temporarily forgot about Berryman and Robo. My bad.

Everyone seems to think that starting young players means that you don't have any depth. I disagree, it could mean that, but it could also mean they are good players. Everyone here knows how much Mac loves his walk-ons and players who have worked the hardest for 3 or 4 years. Don't you think that he would just play the older player (or hardest working older player) if he had no depth? Thats what i think.

While I'm not dancing in the streets over a lot of young guys playing on the defense...it's not automatically a signal for failure either. Didn't Leaders start as a freshman? Dare I say Berryman...yet...aside from the off-the-field stuff...he too started as a freshman. I could list a few others too.

History shows D-Mac's defenses are coached well...especially in recent years. I think with the high-powered offense and the young yet very athletic defense...ISU will be just fine this fall. Plus...next year's defense aught to be pretty special!
