1. This won't hurt BYU football. he was the weak link--not that good.
2. The biblical stuff against premarital sex? Kids got married when they were 13 back then. Over half never made it to 5 years old. God, Jesus, no one back then expected men to go into their 20's as virgins. Abstinence back then was easy bc they got married at puberty.
3. I smell a rat when sexual assault victims sue for loot, but don't press for criminal charges.
4. BYU enforces its honor code--right or wrong. Sex is taboo. He will never play another down for BYU.

The cop’s comment may have been a lament, as opposed to an attempt to discourage.

Cause he’s kinda not wrong.

Oh no, totally agree on that.

BUT... this is in Provo... and idk if Jake is in the same ward as the cop... a lot of that happens.

Edit: Reltzlaff is Jewish, so idk if he’s part of the LDS church

You shouldn’t. The vast majority of guys who SA women and children get away with it or get slaps on the wrist. It is almost never an easy case to win.

This story, if true, is the kind of thing that makes you think “sports ball”.

Especially because victims don’t “press charges,” they can say whether they want the person charged/say how much they will cooperate, but that is the prosecutor’s decision

Yep, and if she knew the guy and they have mutual friends, she’ll get to read and hear what they have to say about how crappy of a person she is and how he’s a great guy.

Agreed. Sounds like the last thing a police officer should be saying. Their job is to investigate the allegations 150%.

A DA seems to be the person who would tell a victim the case isn't strong.

REALLY bad look for Provo police if allegation true.
Where do you think the DA gets their info from? It’s from the investigating agency (cop, agent, etc). Not uncommon or unreasonable at all for a. LEO to have that conversation with a citizen.

SA is so hard to prosecute/defend. Because it’s almost always a he said/she said. There are rarely witnesses and usually the only DNA or hard evidence that exists confirms intercourse, which in of itself isn’t a crime.

So the only other recourse either party has is going after character. Unless the party has a pattern of behavior to lean on (like Diddy, Epstein) that usually won’t win a criminal court case. It’s just a ****** deal for the victim to try to get justice (or the plaintiff if they’re wrongly accused)

Completely agree. Our justice system is designed to make convicting someone of a crime difficult (this isn't necessarily a bad thing). For the victim, it is easier to get some form of justice in civil court.

I might be missing something in this story. He fell asleep and she didn't leave simply because she was charging her phone? Sorry.. once your phone is at 3%, call someone and get out of there.

Trauma response takes over in these situations, from what I’ve heard from people who have been through it. Like, they just experienced something where they had no agency over their own body and they were completely under the control of another person, against their will. Their attacker was all-powerful and they were completely powerless. It doesn’t just wear off when the act is complete.

True. But at the time there wasn't any actual assault. The player was verbally angry at her, but no physical abuse had occurred. She reached for her phone but it was dead. He then fell asleep and she charged her phone. He then woke up and that's when the physical abuse allegedly occurred.

It just seems she didn't feel threatened when he feel asleep. If she was, she'd get out of there when he was sleeping

I don't know.. Something to the story just isn't adding up IMO
