Alabama will pay more for a 5th string QB to never see the field than ISU can pay for a starter. Game over.
If your aspiration is to play QB in the NFL, you'd be foolish to take the money bag and never see the field when you can go to a school that offers a smaller bag but prepares you for the NFL and a much much larger bag.

A. If it was “all about the bank”, we wouldn’t be able to field a team.

B. Who told you that Rocco’s family was “wealthy”?
His dad was a first round NFL draft pick. Started at least 4 years for the Jets. Bounced around to three other nfl teams before ending his career.
As Battlehawks coach he makes $910,000 per year. He is on the Jets broadcast team during the nfl season.
My guess is that he is wealthy.

That's a broad brush...
There's truth in their, somewhere, but you or I don't know where it is. Couldn't agree more with your last sentence.
Agree. That comment about Rocco's family is an assumption many have said. Sure, a kid who comes from nothing might be easily swayed by money as they've never had it and Rocco has likely had a very privileged life up to ISU.....but I think probably more importantly is he has a dad who knows what it takes to make it through college and in the league and probably has been able to help Rocco see the "big picture" of it all.

This has been said for 4 years now and the house is still standing. Even if he does end up de committing the house will still be standing as well.

The sky is not falling.
Are payments the same as they were four years ago? No. Ask Blum, they've almost doubled every year. The sky may not be crashing down, but it's falling slowly.

His Dad has more career earnings in the NFL than an engineering grad from Iowa State will earn in their entire life.
So you folks’ definition of “wealthy” is “makes more money than me”. Gotcha.

@Cyclad, you listed his last salary with the Chiefs, not his Battlehawks salary. UFL coaches make low six figures.

I have a friend whose husband was a prominent attorney for over thirty years. She worked a good job, and he made a lot of money.

They declared bankruptcy a year or so before he retired.

Is that “wealthy”?

So now the Becht family could be on the verge of bankruptcy?

Maybe We Will can organize a fundraiser.

That’s a really stupid thing to say, and I didn’t say that.

I’m saying that you can’t tell what someone’s financial status is based upon what you think (or know) they’ve earned.

Duh. :eyeroll:

I’ll further add what you all seem to be ignoring, and that’s that Mrs. Becht is in real estate, may well be the one handling the family finances, and thus they’re more than likely okay.

But “comfortable” isn’t necessarily “wealthy”.

In that topic, I’ll add. I had a “rich uncle” who started a company from scratch. Retiring about thirty years ago, he informed me that he’d never made more than 30K a year.

What he didn’t say was, “because he’d plowed all the profits back into the company”.

My three cousins retired a couple years ago, and sold the now quite substantial company. Now, they are wealthy.

…though I’m pretty sure they’d say “comfortable”.

Speaking of wealthy, the last QB we were in a "recruiting battle" against Bama for just signed a 265 million dollar contract, so the "Bama can pay more" hill some of you are dying on is a moot point, IMO

CMC can remind Jett that he can go to Bama for maybe a few hundred thousand to be a 4th or 5th string, or he can come to ISU, and best case scenario he is signing a hefty contract in 5-7 years

I think I saw (maybe even posted) a list of the top paid NFL players. Or maybe QB’s. Or maybe those are one and the same.

Not remembering who was on it…how many of that handful of names above Brock went to Alabama?

Just Tua. Words can not express how stupid of a contract that was for Miami. Guys making like 53-54 mil per concussion

Couple of questions:

Why do people automatically assume Jett would be 4th or 5th string?

Does everyone understand that when it comes to blue bloods Bama is actually considered not great when it comes to NIL. Better than us probably but they aren’t major players like Ohio State, LSU, Texas, etc.

Lastly, not a question, but let’s say he ends up at Alabama. Would it be that be crazy for a kid to choose one of, if not the best program in the history of college football over Iowa State? Like, come on.

Unfortunately, it is all about the bank nowadays. If Rocco's family wasn't already wealthy, I doubt he'd still be here either. Something's got to give or this house of cards is coming down.

I don't know the numbers but to me it's looked like the 1%ers of college football have lost their depth and that has contributed to someone like Bama being down aside from the coaching change.

I think in the big picture guys will take a lower amount to at least play elsewhere vs the days when they were still making good money under the table to carry a clipboard.

I think that you answered your own question-nothing against Jett, and id be stoked if he ends up in Ames, but the "best college football program in the history of college football" as you stated, probably doesnt roll out a 4 star from Nebraska as the Week 1 starter, and bench one of the other 2-3 5 star recruits in the QB room

There is time to save this. I'm not giving up hope. But...

"Evolve or die. We about died." -- Chris Williams (talking about NCAA as a whole, not just ISU.)

"ISU spent $6 million on NIL last year. Texas (and others) were $40-50 million. Is that going to work? No." -- Brent Blum

I agree changes need made and hopefully will be, but with all that said ISU had its best season ever even with those NIL discrepancies.

Did he retire to run for President?

I'll step out.
