I see HyVee is closing the Wahlburgers concept and reverting to the Market Grille concept (whatever that means). Why don't they just return to the full deli operation - seemed very popular to me??
We tried the Wahlburgers once. Ridiculously overpriced, very average burgers.

That was a decision made when the Whalburger brothers were hot on TV with their family show. There were people who questioned the move but others felt the exposure would be good. If you recall they also were promoting the health/workout products Mark had.

Hy vee used to advertise 38 cents per pound bananas for perks holders. Now it’s 54 cents for our store and there is no perks discount.

The whole Perk program never really seems like it took off. Do they even offer "perk only" pricing anymore?

Because most people think Hy-Vee is more expensive than Wal-Mart, Fareway, Price Chopper, and so on. I’ve also seen signs listing prices lower than their competitors.

It's because they are more expensive than Wal-Mart. Highlighting certain products is nothing more than marketing. At the end of the day if you fill a cart with the same items at Wal-Mart and HyVee, Wal-Mart is going to be significantly cheaper. Once on sale items are balanced out by Wal-Marts every day shelf price.

Don't forget PharMor!

Sometimes when I have trouble falling asleep, I try to walk the halls of Sunmart/Econofoods from my memory.
Yes, PharMor! Wow that's another blast from the past.

My mom worked in the bakery at Barlow's for awhile. Only grocery store I ever remember having carpeted floors.

I didn't know there were more than 1 Barlow's. I thought the only one was on 1st Ave near Marion, right across from Carlos O'Kelly's. That one did become a Randall's. where was the other one?
There was a Barlow's on the SW side of CR...NW corner of Edgewood Rd and 16th Ave. Not sure what that building is now...currently sits behind a KFC that shares an entrance with Earl May.
