Also if you really want to geek out and get some really good discussion on Andor, it’s inspirations, and how it relates to us currently I can’t recommend the podcast A More Civilized Age enough.
Guess I’ll have to listen. I keep seeing people say that this show relates to current situations. For sure you could see some parallels to North Korea or Russia but not much in terms of an open revolution in either case

OT the only comic relief was the droids and that’s all that was needed. Prequels could have used a normal alien and not the goofy jar jar. And there was no reason to include R2 and 3po. Just come up with some new droids. That would have changed the whole thing.
Did the Ewoks cease to exist?

Jar Jar was really only in one movie, much like the Ewoks. There wasn’t a whole lot of comic relief in episodes II and III - quippy lines from the main trio at times, but that existed in the OT too.

Really the themes in Andor are timeless and analogous to all sorts of situations. Many more than just North Korea and Russia. If that's really all you can think of do a little bit of research. Autocratic regimes are having a moment in many places across the world right now, and there have been some massive demonstrations, uprisings, and war in recent years. Hopefully we can just leave it at that because specifics will probably get this thread locked in short order. If you're really curious listen to the podcast and discuss in the cave whether you agree or disagree with their takes.

What about the universally panned JarJar Binks? I'm probably one of five people on the planet that actually liked him.
For me, the problem with 1-3 is that there was zero chemistry between Anakin & Amadala. The kid version of Anakin was kind of annoying, and IMO the only characters with any personality (good, bad, or indifferent) were Obi Wan, Qui-Gon, Mace, Palpatin, and Jar Jar.

Oh that was a huge problem. Absolutely needed to start with casting an Anakin closer in age to Padme in TPM. And rewriting the romantic scenes between them in AOTC. They probably should have just let Hayden Christiansen play the role in TPM.

But I still believe that jar jar and the gunguns in general should have been less goofy and slapstick and more like Chewbacca.

You’re right. Things were turning that way already in ROTJ with Lucas. And then with the special editions with the burp and fart jokes and Han shooting first.

One of the biggest news stories of the last couple weeks was pretty similar to what happens to Cassian in episode 7.

The prequels came out when I was young (ep III when I was in junior high) so I wasn’t analyzing things from much of a critic’s perspective back then. I watched the original trilogy on VHS over and over again as the prequels were being released… So it was just exciting to get new Star Wars at all when I was a kid.

In hindsight, the writing of the prequels is definitely wooden at times, especially the dialogue of Anakin. But I think the interpretation that George can’t write dialogue to save his life (based on the prequels) is a little too overdone as well. It seems he was simply leaning into writing for “a more civilized age” (ala Ben in ANH), which to George meant more formal… And thus, a direct comparison of the dialogue of politicians and Jedi at the end of the Republic is always going to suffer in pure entertainment value vs. the rag-tag team of scrappy underdogs from the original trilogy, who only ever lived on the run and in the outer rim.

The prequels are flawed, no doubt. But those three movies cover the downfall of a hero vs. the rise of one. Tough to match the tone of the OT when you look through that lens.

Are they making any more Mandalorian seasons(not spin offs)? That was the only one I really ever watched.
I think it's just the Mando movie in 2026 left on the docket. There was going to potentially be a season 4 before that, but it all turned into the movie. There could be more seasons or another movie after "Mandalorian and Grogu" but that hasn't been announced yet

Will the Thrawn storyline be included I that movie or what is going to come from the Ashoka storyline?

At the Star Wars Celebration event over the weekend there was a leaked trailer for the Mando movie and that movie has a release date scheduled in May 2026. Regarding Ahsoka season 2, Filoni talked about what to expect and said season two is about to begin production. Maybe they could release Ahsoka season two right before the movie next May, but that seems tight to me (I'm a novice though).

IIRC the original plan was for the Mando era to conclude with a movie that had Thrawn as the big bad. My best guess is that's another movie later on, and not 2026's The Mandalorian and Grogu*

*gotta be the worst movie name in years, maybe ever. I'll be there opening weekend still, but oof

The name is awful and I am honestly not even a little excited for it.

I haven't watched a second of content with Grogu in it since Season 3 finished and I still have extreme Grogu fatigue. Bringing him back after the season 2 finale was a tremendous mistake.

That was a tight 50 minutes for the first episode of Andor! If that's the pace of the whole season holy crap.

Episode 2 was especially slow but I enjoyed all 3. One of the spoiler free reviews I read said episode 4 really ramps it up

Ok to me, not a lot happening in E1 and E2, but E3 picked it up. Excited for next week.
I thought a lot happened in Episode 1. Starts off with a big action set piece and then lays the plot for what I assume happens in the next 2 episodes. Catching up with old characters and introducing new ones there wasn't a lot of breathing room IMO.

I will say there was a scene in episode 3 that’s going to spark some debate. They pushed it pretty far for what I usually expect in Star Wars. Guarantee there will be people upset they went that far. Personally they could have had plenty of the reaction they were going for without going so far

Episode 1&2 are character and storyline builders. Episode 3 gets a “wow”!

I don’t really agree. Only because they are skipping ahead one year after this. So what was really developed? They showed that there was rebel infighting and that Mon married away her daughter. What is the significance of the ship they stole?

I’ve seen them say that this is like 4 separate movies. Well if that’s the case this movie was boring af. The first three episodes of season 1 were slow, but E3 was great and there was a payoff for watching the first 2. This seasons E3 payoff was not nearly as big.
