The Republic of Korea Air Force has announced that during a Joint-Exercise today with the U.S. Air Force, a KF-16 Multirole Fighter Jet “accidentally dropped” at least 8 Mk-82 500lb Bombs on the Town of Dong-myeon in the Gyeonggi Province of South Korea. Less than 12 miles from the North Korean border. Bombs destroyed several houses, and a church. At least 7 injuries reported, 4 in critical condition.

That is crazy. How in the heck did they not know it was a real town? Terrible stuff. Glad it wasn't the US fighter jets doing it. I have seen live bombs dropped on base. Not sure why they were not training on a base and dropping their bombs on the combat town area of that base.

Just a couple of things off the top of my head, not that I am necessarily right either.

1. It's possible that South Korea doesn't have the land that we do to hold these types of exercises on base land.

2. I also assume that we hold these exercises close to the boarder so that North Korea can see it.

Actually they do have that land to drop them. My son was Stationed at Camp Bonifas for a few months and it's a pretty big base. They have other big Bases that the South Koreans train at as well. Actually funny story. My son forgot his pillow in Okinawa so he went to the PX to buy a new Pillow. Right when he walked in there was a huge Display of Iowa State Cyclone pillows with our Dan McCarney era colors and mascot on sale. No other team. Just Iowa State. He immediatly sent me a Snap showing me it and could not figure out why only Iowa State at a military base in Korea. I informed him the PX get's all kinds of weird Overstock items. So he bought on for a dollar and 99 cents. Just thought I would share that strange story.

Thanks for the base information. I'm not entirely sure how other countries manage their bases since the US has a lot of land, so we may be able to afford it more than other countries.

Cool story about the shopping!

BTW I don't think people quite understand how big Military bases are in the United States and abroad. They are absolutely huge. I was actually shocked how big Camp Pendelton was when I was stationed at that base. I ask him how big the base was in Korea and he said it was smaller than Pendleton but still pretty darn big.

I always knew that our bases in the US were huge where we could stage large scale operations but wasn't sure how big they could be in other countries due to centuries/millennia of towns growing.

The town they bombed wasn't as big as Oceanside. HOwever, it would be like if the Marines dropped bombs on Oceanside. This whole thing makes no sense.
