I was on tour with Ozzfest back in the day. The one thing about Ozzy is he has no idea where he is or what he is saying. However, when dude hits the stage, he comes alive. It's pretty crazy. That stage just makes him change.

During the peace and love era 4 blokes blew the **** up

A ******* fantastic band with one hell of an early run. Those first 5 albums still hold up and will always hold up.

Agreed. He's incredible live. I caught them for Ozzfest 99 with all 4 original members, and it's one of the highlights of my concert going life.

The lineup had some excellent bands, System of a Down, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, Deftones, Primus Godsmack, etc, but Sabbath was far and away the best of the show.

That was actually the tour I was on with Slipknot. I actually spoke to Bill Ward for about a half hour with my friend Paul who was in Slipknot. I didn't know the whole time it was Bill Ward. I thought he was a Roadie. It was before Phones have Camera's and I am so disappointed I didn't have a camera with me. I still have all of my Crudentials signed by Sharon Ozzborne which gave me all access to everything the whole tour.

Bill Ward is truly one of the all-time greatest rock drummers

But he could've been one of the all-time jazz drummers too. Amazing talent.

Just a random observation, but it always felt like Ozzy/Black Sabbath were unusually popular in Iowa. Not so much that they aren't popular elsewhere, but it just seemed like they were in waaaay heavier rotation on the radio, in bars/restaurants and other such places where one hears music they don't necessarily choose. It just seemed like I heard weekly if not daily while living in Iowa (from the late-90s through the mid-00s) and pretty infrequently since moving away.

Lots of good tributes and mini-reunions/collabs were posted and most seemed to go very well.

Obvious Sharon was in charge. It was mostly about Ozzy. Ozzy did 5 of his solo songs with Zak Wylde and only 4 Sabbath songs. No mention of the Sabbath albums with Ronnie James Dio. Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules were solid albums. One of bands could have done a cover of at least one song

I don't know about anyone else, but I think if Jack Black ever became serious about music (I don't know, maybe he is and just only acts like he's always doing a comedy act) he could be one of the greatest rock singers of all time. He's got it all, right down to the rock scream.

I don't know how 'serious' they were but Tenacious D had a good run.

Tenacious D was always more of a comedy act. The clip I linked above is about as serious as I've ever seen Jack Black when he's singing. Maybe it's because he wanted to do justice to Ozzie in this tribute to him. Even in School of Rock, he camped it up for the comedic value.
