These threads are always fun. Is there a game time yet? If you are here to get the full tailgate experience you want to show up early and walk the lots. Don’t be afraid to be social and talk to people. We will offer lots of food and drinks. Definitely get a hotel in Ames for Saturday and do a few Welch bars after. It’s the college bar scene but is fine for all ages on game days. As someone asked, is it a family or friends trip?

My mother was born in New Orleans. She made an amazing Jambalaya, taught us how to suck the brains out of crawdads, gave me a love for both cajun & creole styles. I'm with cstrunk - if @NHWarhawk brings some of the traditional foods from LA, they will have sealed the deal re tailgate welcomes.

I don't really see the point in spending any time at all in Des Moines. When I go to away games I like to get to know the atmosphere of the college town, not the town 45 min away.
