Woolys is a great venue. Well it's better than anything I had when I was younger around here. Basic Layout. Just big open floor space.

Big bar with a solid beer selection, not sure if it is all shows, but at least at one point Up/down next door would give you some tokens if you showed them your ticket. Lots of good eats in the area as well.

I think Wooly's was started by the old bookers at People's. They know what they're doing. It's like a big Vaudeville.

Seen a handful of shows at Wooly's. Great place. Not so small you feel like you can't move around but small enough to feel like you're close to the band from anywhere. Reminds me a little of The Metro in Chicago, probably a little bigger and without the balcony.

Wooly's has a pretty good sound system. Seen some good acts there.

It would be better if they have new floors :confused::oops:o_Oo_O.

There's nothing wrong with their floors I was being smart alecky regarding the OP in another dead horse thread.

Wooly's is my favorite DM concert venue. Not because it's a "nice place" by any means (it's OK...it is a bar after all), but because it's pretty much the perfect size for concerts. It's just big enough to attract decent artists, but small enough that you get a more intimate setting. I prefer the up close and personal experience versus the huge arena concert.

Only slightly related...last time I went to a show at Wooly's, we went to Quinton's before the show. I've been to the Iowa City location 10+ times and always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. But the Des Moines location was terrible. We had a group of about 10 and were pretty much the only people in there (should have been a clue I guess). Maybe one other group. The service was slow and sloppy. There was no atmosphere whatsoever. Might as well have been an Applebee's. The food was fine.

How did they whiff so hard on that? They're in a great part of town and have a great reputation in Iowa City.

Wooly’s is great. Locust Tap and Up Down (now two floors) are great before and after drink spots. The owners (who also own Up Down) just opened up a new spot on Grand and 5th (across the street from lime lounge) called Ernie’s Boondock that’s great. Has a small town, tavern feel, really nice inside, and a good size patio that at times has a food truck. Get yourself a beer & a bump.

Haven't heard of this new place. Gonna have to give it a try.

Yeah, they took what was originally built as a gas station and made it into a bar that appears to have been there forever. Nice concept.
