@Fitzy

Neither Jackson nor Weiler-Babb had started a game until 2017-2018.

That game in Columbia, Missouri was the first for both.

That team returned exactly 12 starts -- all of them by Solomon Young.

The team next year will return...

38 Young
35 Jacobson
34 Haliburton
1 Lewis

...a grand total of 108. I am not counting starts for other schools.

Counting those...

69 Nixon (at Colorado State)
56 Jacobson (at Nebraska)

= another 125

Altogether... = 233

That is a fair bit more experience than, well... 12 like we had in that "lost year."

Awesome. Thanks for doing the research!

I guess you could give some credit to the starts by...

Beverly @ TAMU-CC and UTSA = 67
Brase @ Princeton = 81
Talley @ Old Dominion = 37

185 at these lower-tier schools

185 + 12 from Solomon = 197 total

I feel that starts at Nebraska, Virginia, and even Colorado State count for more, though.

@Fitzy I have a feeling almost everyone would answer the Alien Ambassador question with The Rock but you saved yourself with Jason Mamoa. Thumbs up!

Agree on the 'What do we do now that Prohm lost?' bit. That was nothing but a dig and like a Sweet 16 berth is such an extension of the season.

Something that needs consideration is that as much as people are melting down about next season because of losing scoring, I'd like to know how many a year ago thought Shayok or THT were going to be as productive as they were, and why they're concerned about losing Lard who was a game to game mystery.

I am not worried about losing Lard whatsoever. I would have after his freshman year, but he had enough chances, and nothing in his sophomore year was much to write home about. Jacobson, Young, Conditt, and Anderson are a fine front court.

I would have traded Lard last year for a healthy Young in a moment.

Ironically, our big need for next year is a volume scorer on the perimeter. We had three really good ones last year, but now we are looking at having zero of them. I think that is something we can rustle up, though, or just replace by committee across the roster.

I thought Shayok was going to be a 10-12 guy -- not a 20+ one.

So 2 of your top 5 receivers are going to be T.E.'s. Sorry, but there is no historical basis to make such a rash exaggeration. I'm not saying I wish it wasn't true, but that is truly a horrible/terrible/need I say likely idiot guess. Hopefully you can point at me in a few months and tell me how wrong I was instead.

Take away everyone who isn't returning and this is what the 2018 reception list looks like:

Deshaunte Jones 43
Tarique Milton 34
Charlie Kolar 11
Landen Akers 10
Sheldon Croney 9
Chase Allen 8
Johnnie Lang 4
Kene Nwangwu 2
Josh Johnson 1

Of the now-available 87 combined receptions Hakeem Butler and Matt Eaton sucked up, I'd guess a large chunk of those are going to go to the remaining "tall guys" on the roster - so Kolar, Allen, and Jalen Martin.

The running back stable will have an opportunity to grab quite a few more receptions with Montgomery (22) gone too but no one knows what that rotation is going to look like yet.

I don't think predicting two solidly talented tight ends to get a reception boost heading into next year is a "rash exaggeration" or a "horrible/terrible/idiot" guess.

Definitely agree on Melvin. His resume deserves that recognition. Other accomplishments:

Academic All American as well as being included in 5 All American teams his senior year.

I look at Melvin and think, if a guy can do that much on the court, in the classroom, and as a leader and citizen and not see his #3 in the rafters, then I do not know what a guy can do.

I know we love Georges, Naz, and Monté, but Melvin was the foundation for it all.

It would also be really awesome. Good tight end play can stress a defense.

I'm hoping the RBs are targeted more this year.

Totally agree on Ejim. We had a slug of great 4 year players come through, but I think we are seeing how special those guys were. I don't see why it is unreasonable to hang the jerseys of 3 players during one of the winningest eras of cyclone basketball.
