Did anyone else see this? Florida cheer coach obviously takes her job too seriously. We were at the game and the drama totally distracted us from the actual game. She was waving her arms like George Costanza on Seinfeld. LOL.

Saw it live. Thought the band person took it to seriously by actually tackling the mascot.
Looked completely staged to me. The way the mascot fell looks like the teenage sibling being "Tackled" by their 5 year old sister in the backyard.

Not to mention the guy who was Johnny-on-the-spot to grab her expensive instrument.

They did this before every game in Des Moines. A staged fight between mascots with Reggie Miller in between. Michigan did not have a mascot so they had the little chick with the big tuba from the Michigan band instead. The take down was just a little extra "fun".

It was partially staged. Before every games Reggie miller brought the opposing mascots to center court and pretended to be trying to separate them. Reggie then had the band person give her instrument to someone and was told to chase the gator. She wasn’t supposed to actually tackle it though.

Since Michigan don’t have a mascot they used a band member.

Side note - the Montana grizzly mascot was crazy athletic doing flips and all sorts of tumbling that I’ve never seen a mascot in costume do.

Our son spent a year on the Cy Squad. It is NOT all that fun to be tackled in that costume. You don't see it coming most of the time. They rotate by quarter in the football games, by halves in basketball games, He was the final quarter Cy during a big upset win and was caught up in the storming of the field. He told us all he could do was run as fast as he could with knees high, hoping he didn't fall & get trampled...all the while saying OHSH!TOHSH!TOHSH!TOHSH!T... :D

Like minor league baseball games where a fake umpire comes out there and then busts crazy moves to Ice Ice Baby!

Good times....good times.

Saw it live too, but totally missed the lady running in to break it up. Looked totally staged.

Unrelated: Monte the Griz mascot was easily the best mascot of the two sessions I was at. And the piccolo player in the Nevada band was the best band member - he was way more into the game than anyone else, players included!

This redit comment says she asked the mascot if she could tackle him and he was cool with it. The cheer coach, not so much.
LOL I am in the band and yea it wasn’t planned ahead of time but the tuba player went up there and was like “hey is it ok if I tackle you” and the mascot was like “lol ok”. The angry lady was the Florida cheer coach and she told our tuba player “ThErE iS a PeRsOn iN tHeRe yOu KnoW”. This whole time, we thought it was an animatronic mascot. Legendary.
