I can only think of one thing that wreaks havoc on entire countries
If you go with nicknames than Miami might have been able to go to to toe with but they didn't make the tourney. The problem is nicknames ain't mascots in our case. Miami has the same problem we do, how to dress up a storm. They went with a ibis and we went with a cardinal so it's birds fighting it out, not storms. 
Mascot to mascot I think Alabama might to tough as long as unless the Mountaineers don't go poacher on them.

One thing is for sure, Ohio State loses because their mascot is a tree nut, way to strike fear in the hearts of your opponents.
Well he is a large bipedal buckeye nut.
I think they should have gone with the full grown buckeye tree and not the seed. Maybe something like an ent or Groot!

Trees weren't made cool until LOTR came out. I'm sure the disaster that is Stanford's mascot scared them from their own attempt
Buffalo Wild Wings already did. And we won.
The "mascot" fight could go two ways for us. Is it Cy the Bird or an actual Cyclone? BWW must have been an actual Cyclone.
Since it's already been done, how about a bracket in who would win in mod fights? I think angie would be a semi-finalist at least.
And of course one of the first responses is a butthurt hawk fan. Why are they so god damn predictable
