We did this a few years ago ... @rochclone is a great poster and wants to give away two 100-level all session passes to the Big 12 Tournament to a father/son, father/daughter combo. Mothers included too! Here's what he wrote me.

It is very important to me that these tickets go to a parent/child combination once again. I have been lucky enough to go to every Big 12 Tournament since 1987 with the exception of last year when my wife and I were lucky enough to have our second child on March 2nd (not the best planning by me). Most of the years I went with my father and later in life we incorporated my mom, my wife, sister and brother-in-law. Anyway, I remember crushing losses like Junior year Vic Alexander losing to #1 Seed Oklahoma on a last second 35 footer. I remember the crushing loss to Baylor that was just a small preview of the Hampton debacle a week later. And I remember winning in 1996 and 2001 and how awesome that was to share with my Dad. I also remember the trips to Dallas and Oklahoma City and loving the experience but realizing it wasn't the same as Kansas City. Basketball simply means more in that town. I remember the years under McDermott where I was just hopeful we could somehow pull an upset and just advance to the second day. And finally I remember the recent run with Fred and Coach Prohm and winning three of the last five Big 12 Tournaments. That number is truly amazing. But most importantly I remember all those experiences being alongside my father. The memories he created with a young 9 year old until now when I'm a 40 year old man is something that I will never be able to completely repay. I hope to take my two boys when they are old enough but for now the way I choose to pay it forward is by doing this.

My Dad and I will be making the trek again to Kansas City this year and I would love it to know that four of our tickets make it into hands of people that can create their own memories. I don't need any recognition. That is something my Dad should get.

So here's what we are going to do. From now until tomorrow night at 5, the "contest" will be open. What's the "contest?" Tell us WHY you want these tickets, who they will go to, how you will use them, why it's important to you, etc.

The CF staff will vote on the winner and announce it on tomorrow night's radio show.

Sound good?

GO.

"This is a really great idea and I hope the tickets go to a deserving family. I love these kind of stories. It shows that there are still good people in the world."

- everyone on CF because we're all too nice and would feel guilty getting them over someone else that needs them more

I love the idea @rochclone . Very cool.

This is such a great gesture! I would love to enter into the contest but my son is only 11 months old. Looking forward to many trips to KC with him though!

I agree with @coolerifyoudid. I have been so fortunate to share great memories, and some tough ones with my son. He is 15 now, and we went to the tourney here at the Well to watch other teams, then we road tripped to Chicago for the sweet 16. We went to the Alamo Bowl, and made it to the KU and KSU games in Hilton this year. Not to mention every home football game.

We have the means, so I don't want to take it from another deserving family to have those great seats. But the greatest thing my son told me before going to the Alamo Bowl, was that he hoped Mom didn't want to to go because road trips with me were better when it's just us.

I hope whomever receives these is doing this for the first time, and that it creates those kinds of memories. Thanks donor!!!

Rochclone sold me tickets 3 years ago when I first took my son ( then 5) to the tourney. We sat with his family and my son watched all 9 games, every minute. His brother (or brother in law) even showed my son how to keep score. They were fantastic people to sit with and we have been back every year.

I can’t in good conscience enter this contest as we have secured our tickets and are financially blessed enough where it should go to others. But I just wanted to give a shout to out to Rochclone. He told me all about his long tradition. With his dad going back to the Kemper days and my son and I have embraced the same annual tradition now. We look forward to it all year and enjoy every minute regardless of how the Clones are performing....

Thank you for doing this @rochclone. It nice to see kindness.

I am an Iowa State alumni and a die hard fan. I am proud to have a son who has followed in my footsteps and as of last May, is also an alumni to Iowa State. I have been a single mom and my influences on him has also created a Cyclone fanatic. He hasn't been to the Big 12 Tournament yet and we have actually talked about going together but the tickets are a bit more for my budget.

I have been fortunate to go to one game with a friend, 2 years ago. The atmosphere is incredible and I loved attending the pep rally. I was so proud to see so many Iowa State fans in Kansas City. We have such a great fan base and I love being part of it.

The men's basketball team is currently struggling. They need our help to fill Hilton South and encourage them to be the team we know they are. Cheer loud Cyclone! Help those guys out!

One "silver lining" in our late season crash is that the market for tickets in KC won't be as strong. Younger folks and those with less resources may find it more affordable to attend.

P.S. If we win Saturday and take the first two in KC, by Saturday it will once again be "will the last person in Ames turn out the lights?"

In my household, I’m the one locked in my bedroom yelling at the tv during Cyclone games while my indifferent (and sports-hating) husband rolls his eyes. I’d love the opportunity to share some Cyclone fanaticism with my daughter in Kansas City (even if she does like to get under my skin by pretending she’s a Hawkeye fan). I’ll work on her sense of humor (and taste in sports teams) separately.
