And Hightower being Hightower. That POS should have been run out of the building multiple times. Always seemed to think everyone paid admission to see him.

Tubbs said Hightower asked him to make an announcement. Hightower claims that Tubbs begged him to allow him to make the announcement. When you watch the longer version it sure makes me believe Billy's version of it.

Oklahoma went from having a WWE heel in Tubbs to having a WWE sleazy manager in Sampson.

Tubbs was at least entertaining. The Big 8 had some big personalities back in the late 80s-early 90s

Agreed. Whatever Johnny, Tubbs, Norm, and Sutton were doing on the sidelines sometimes was more interesting than what was happening on the court. Even Danny Nee had his moments at Nebraska.

Yeah when Johnny Orr told **** Vitale he kicked his ass.

When Norm used to fake sitting down because the crowd was doing a "Sit down Norm" chant, which was personally my favorite.

I remember watching **** Vitale (who was announcing the game on TV for ESPN) interview Billy Tubbs before a big game. Billy said something like this, "Everybody tune in to ESPN at 7 for the game. Then turn down the volume and listen on the radio so you don't have to listen to **** Vitale."

True Story about Tubbs.

I got the opportunity to help the AP sportswriter for a Cyclone game against OU.

Hurl Beechum went wild against the Sooners in the first half and then did nothing in the second half and the Sooners won.

The AP guy asked me to sit in on Tubbs post game press conference and ask what Tubbs told his players at halftime to shutdown Beechum.

Tubbs said, "At halftime we told the player to jam him up, we devised a double-team method, we drew up a couple of defense zones just special for him."

And then he just stopped and chuckled.

"You really want to know what I really told them? I told them 'Will somebody please guard that guy's ass'?"

I liked Tubbs, and you could always find him a KC bar during the Big 8 tournaments mingling with all the fans.

What I like about this clip is Tubbs after his statement has the "WHAT? I thought this was America. What did I do?" look.
