Is it a forgone conclusion that if a team wins the conference outright their coach will win the COY this year? I’ve seen a ton of hype for Scott Drew to be COY, but none whatsoever for Prohm. Some even going as far as saying Drew is a lock no matter what happens the rest of the season. Who is your mid-season Big 12 COY? What is your prediction for COY at the end of the season? Anyone think Prohm could get it if we finish 3rd? Would Drew win it finishing 3rd?

My mid-season COY is Scott Drew, only because they are currently ranked higher than us, but not for long.

My guess for the end of the season COY is that Kansas has to win outright or split with KSU for Self to get it. Winning 15 straight with your least impressive team is worthy in my book. If any team shares with Kansas the other coach would get it automatically, except KSU. Idk who would get COY if we split with Baylor. KSU will need to win the league outright for Weber to get it, because of their high preseason expectations. Any way it boils down, with such a competitive year the league is having, I think any team will need at least a share of the regular season title for their coach to earn COY, and it is down to Prohm, Drew, Weber, and Self (Tech is a mess right now). But since I think we will win it outright, it will be Prohm.

I would have no problem with giving the COY to any coach that wins it outright. None of the current top 4 have had roster continuity, though losing Clark and Azibuke for the year is worse than what Prohm and Weber have faced. Still Prohm had to incorporate a lot of new guys. Right now I would go Drew, Prohm, Weber, Self. All have done a really good job this year so far.

If Baylor competes with KU, KSU, and ISU for the title, Drew should get COY imo.

Drew for sure so far. What they’re doing right now is incredible after losing their best player. If they start to fade and we finish strong I’m guessing it’ll go to Prohm.

Jesus can you imagine the deafening silence on here if Prohm were to win COY?

Some folks would be so mad, they would disappear until we lose aga.....oh wait.

Drew deserves the award so far this season. But this is a land where Scott Drew is a bad coach, and Trent Johnson is a genius, so there is that.

I agree, but I think if we split games and share the conference regular season with Baylor it would be closer than initially thought. Yes, they’ve had very key injuries. However, the press seems to be forgetting that we finished dead last last year and leaned heavily on freshman and newcomers to get through the early season injuries and continue to rely heavily on them. Both coaches are doing a phenomenal job so far this season, and nobody saw this coming since both were ranked low in preseason polls.

COY, as in the award the coach you disparage won in the WAC, Pac-10, and SEC?
Suggesting the award can be a farce, yet also think it should silence those critical of micro-level things in the same post is a bit contradictory.

Of course you did.

Never disparaged the award. Just your agenda.

If it is Self, then no, it doesn't automatically go to the winner of the Big 12. If someone else does then yes. The Big 12 CoY award goes to whichever team does better than they were picked to do in the preseason.

Drew changes from a dope to a genius because his guards finally started shooting threes better so he's the midpoint leader.

I think its still a little early to jump on the 'scott drew for COY' bandwagon, at least until they play any of the top 6 big 12 teams on the road.

If they continue as they have so far though, obviously he'll lead that race.

Versus the top half of the league, we lost once at home (to KSU), as has baylor (to kansas). We've lost twice on the road (to Kansas and Baylor) but also won one on the road (to Tech). Baylor has no comparative data in that column.

Right, like I said, you disparaged Johnson, a COY in three conferences, while also alluding to COY as being sufficient to silence criticism.

Seek help. This can't be healthy for you.

Interesting that two of your coaching candidates are doing it with transfers as their prime time players, Shayok and Mason. Both will likely be all-conference and the only representative from their teams. Likewise, Ku's will be a Memphis transfer. POY could be a transfer. Oh, how the recruiting game has changed the past few years.

Wow you’re just dumb. People criticized drew for years, when he won games. People lauded the genius of a guy that failed miserably at TCU.

At least the others with your agenda have the self awareness to disappear after wins. Your arrogance concerning your basketball knowledge is unhealthy for the rest of us.

You don’t like the coach. We all get that. You also don’t have nearly the understanding of the game that you think you do. We all also know that
