Stanz & Haaland: Back-and-forth on Iowa State/Big 12 hoops

The Lawson 3 pointer at the end of the game was the opposite of the Burton one, I was like YES he'll miss and we are well positioned underneath for the rebound the ah crap. Tip of the hat to a great player making a big time shot.

We have a slight advantage after the Monday night game with regards to the top 4 in the standings. We are done with KU and have played Tech and KState once each. Those 3 have to play each other twice down the stretch.

Is it too much to say that Lawson's performance was "Niang-esqe?" Seriously, his body control and touch on the shots was uncanny. I didn't think of it at the time, but I saw someone else post a comparison to Niang and I thought "that's it." It isn't an exact parallel, but it was Niang-esqe. Clutch plays. Best player on the biggest stage. All with good moves, body control, and and hand/eye coordination.

Key stat:

"Aside from that, I know a guy logging lineup data in conference games and the starting four guards in 186 possessions are scoring 0.972 points per possession and allowing 0.853PPPp for a net efficiency of 0.119. When you sub Wigginton in for Horton-Tucker, that four-guard lineup has played 186 possessions and is scoring 1.229 PPP and allowing 1.0PPP for a net of .210. So, perhaps he hasn’t been that bad on the whole?"

I wonder what those numbers would be just for the losses and just for the KU game.

Why cherry pick them? Lindell has not been one to disappear in big games over the course of his short career (quite the opposite), so I think the average of all is a good measuring stick.
That’s not exactly cherry-picking and that’s a optimistic narrative. Did we even have big games last year?

It's great to see other's taking a practical approach to Wigginton's performance. I didn't think he played badly at all, just had a tough shooting night. A couple of those drives were pretty ugly but there was another where he got mugged and they didn't blow the whistle.

Is like to see the numbers in the wins as well Id just like to see the breakdowns. Let’s get analytical!

The people ragging on Wigginton need to relax. He had a tough game the other night, but nights like that happen. He's still extremely valuable to the team and can go off for 20 any given night. And aside from that pass he threw out of bounds late in the game he made some really nice passes to guys for buckets.

Wigg's shot is off, imo, because he doesn't square up to the hoop enough. I have been paying attention to his form and no 2 shots are alike. Often, he's going up while still moving forward. Look at Shayok's shot (also Fred's and Curr's shots), and their shooting forms are with feet pointing toward the hoop and even with each other. Wigg often shoots with one foot way ahead of the other.

I’ve always kind of thought his shot would be streaky cause he gets so much lift. There’s more movement for stuff to wrong. It’s kind of a blessing and a curse. If he gets it going he could be like Tyrus and shoot over anybody.

Weren't all these things true of Wigginton's shot last year too?

Funny that looking at numbers only for losses isn't cherry picking when that is a perfect example of cherry picking.

It could be a valuable analytical tool to compare those numbers between wins and losses.
The losses aren't all Wiggy's fault. It's just an interesting tool here.

Just to be difficult for @Cyclonepride , Lindell really hasn't had a lot of big games to play in, has he?

regarding Lindell's shot.....he reminds me a bit of Westbrook.....tons of elevation on the shot, albeit with more arch to the shot itself. But, like others here have noted, he doesnt always do a good jump stop with both feet before elevating.....hence inaccurate. Westbrook isnt the best 3 pt shot either, but I think he squares up better....just my non professional opinion.
