Saw an Iowa State license plate tonight “Best 6 Years” I hope @snowcraig2.0 had a good night.
I'm not sure how good Menards trees are but they are priced right. The folks were looking for some trees called around 1.5 inch trunks from local nurseries over $300. Similar tree at Menards was 90. Apple trees $40.
My only concern is the size/health of the root ball. But for that price difference it was worth taking a chance we figured.

The adventurous can save a bit by purchasing tree seedlings online. I have Osage orange, shellbark hickory, pitch pine, sycamore, paw paw, Rocky Mountain Douglas fir, Kentucky coffee tree and other species dong well on my lot, purchased online from eBay sellers, Arbor Day Foundation, and other sites.
We bought a couple trees from Menards and they were growing great for over 15 years until we cut them out. They were healthy but I will never plant another Ash tree because of the messy roots all over the yard. That's probably academic anyway with the borer.
The trees the folks took out were 50+ yr old ash trees that us kids brought home from Arbor Day at school.
I reckon that's not even a thing anymore.
Our kids brought home a tree every year at about that time. I don't remember if it was for Arbor Day or Earth Day. Arbor Day was a big deal at my elementary school growing up. We had an Arbor Day song and every kids that went to my school can still sing it word-for-word.
Depending on your location, you can get good deals on seedlings from the Iowa DNR Forestry (https://nursery.iowadnr.gov/Native-Iowa-Hardwoods_c_1.html) I planted 25 of each - Pecan, Kentucky Coffee, and Bald Cypress last spring and I think my total bill was under $80. Now if I could just figure out how to keep the deer from nibbling the tops off the Pecan trees
Pheasants forever for Winnebago county sells cheap bare root trees. Gotta work post prom tomorrow. I will have to see if the wife wants to relive prom old school and slam a couple shots and get busy in the back seat.
She's probably thinking the same way but is too shy to admit it.

My fuzzy nurse has not left my side for 48 hours, except to eat and use the litter box. He loves me.

I'm not too upset i never heard back, didn't really see it going any further than just drinks, but she seemed a nice girl. I'm guessing she didn't like the place I picked.
