Who’s your starting 5 Iowa State prospects or bench players that you thought were the next Fred, Dedric, or Jamaal but never got the chance or you never shifted your expectations and struggled to accept reality.

Maybe they went on to play somewhere else, maybe they never wore an ISU uniform, or maybe they stepped away from the game and got into anime.

But you were convinced they were the missing piece when the crystal ball pointed to ISU or they announced they were committing.

Cameron Lard is my #1 "what if" Iowa State athlete of all time. After his freshman season I was convinced he was going to shatter the school blocked shots record and go down as a top 2-3 big man in Iowa State history. He had all the tools, size, strength, athleticism, skill.

Clayton Custer, Final Four point guard for Loyola. He would have been a nice tandem with Monte’.

Darlingstone Dubar would have been a nice Tre King type on this year's team. He looks solid for the Vols.

I like to think Cam Lard would have panned out with more concrete boundaries and a direction for him (CSP seemed to waffle or try different 'strategies' vs. establishing boundaries but could be wrong) and been a very dominant force.

Otoh I don't think he played ever again after '19 so maybe it was a lost cause no matter what.
