Been sick for a few days and have been craving a good soup. What is everyone's favorite soup from restaurants/fast casual/fast food/grocery stores in the DSM metro?

It's been a few years since I lived in DSM. But was always a fan of Palmer's Deli. Not sure it they are still good, but good soups & sandwiches. Plus they always had great cookies, brownies, etc.

It’s not Des Moines, but I just spent all morning smoking a beef spare rib chili and this is the best god damn soup I’ve ever had
Soups are easy ones to make really well at home. You can make a soup that beats most anything you can get at any of the fast casual places.

One of our favorites is
Chicken stock
Shredded Chicken (make it yourself or get a rotisserie chicken in a pinch)
Onion
Garlic
Green chilies/poblano/Rotel (whatever you prefer)
Corn niblets
An ass-ton of cumin (most important ingredient)

Cook down all of the veggies and aromatics (save half of the corn) in butter or oil, add in your cumin, as well salt & pepper. Then add your chicken stock and simmer. Next, get a stick blender and puree everything. The corn will help thicken it up without adding any dairy at all. Then add in your chicken and the remaining corn. I also like to add a lot of hot sauce as well.

Serve it on its own or with stuff like sour cream, a Mexican cheese like queso fresco or cotija, more hot sauce, crumbled tortilla chips, salsa, whatever you think would be good.

Super easy to make and is fantastic.

Sounds a little like what my wife makes that she calls crack chicken soup. It's so good.

She also has the recipe for Olive Garden's gnocchi chicken soup and hers is way better than OG's.

If you want something fast I like the broccoli and cheddar from McCallisters Deli. Their chili is pretty good too just make sure you get it with meat.
