Running around and being a moron in the Gold Star hallway is incredibly disrespectful. I walked across the zodiac every time because the urban legend is dumb.

If the tradition was "We don't walk across the zodiac out of respect for the space and designer" I might've felt differently. The designer intended for people to wear the bronze sculptures down by walking across them.

Whether you believe in the superstition or not, its tradition, you should follow tradition, especially if you call yourself a Cyclone.

Also being a drunk, and disrespectful jackwagon in an area meant to be honored and a memorial to those who gave their lives for this country, total immature jackass move.

Memorials, Cemeteries, and other sacred areas should be respected, regardless of your beliefs. People that dishonor, disrespect, or deface these places should face consequences.

Some people really need to raise their kids to be more respectful, take their kids to a Memorial Day service, attend a funeral, learn some history, etc.

The tradition and the character of the uneven symbols has become more important than the original intent. Preserving the surface and its unique character has become more important that the original design intent. Everyone should respect that tradition and preserve the significant character to preserve its uniqueness, because it is a great tradition, and when its gone its gone and one of the most memorable traditions will die with it.

There are some traditions for Iowa State that are fun and pretty 'meh', like kissing at midnight at the Campanile, or naked run from Beardshear to Curtis.

I think the zodiac tradition though is about respect.
Respect of what? I always walked on it, you were supposed to fail a test, never did. No stomping or anything, just a normal walk. I do honor the hall and its purpose though.

Graduated 15 years ago and still walk around it. at this point it’s habit and muscle memory even though I’m only in the MU once every couple years. Also ya never know what test life will throw at you next.

Walked from Carver to the MU with a guy from a class in my study group. The guy walks through the zodiac - had the most smug look on his face like he thought we were about to explode at how cool he was for doing that

For me it's 50% tradition and 50% not trying to look like a doucher that's too cool to follow along
