Problem is, he's not a good shooter currently.
I wouldn't say Tamin is not a good shooter, he found his stroke and was 37% from 3 in the first 5 conference games, with at least 1 make each game. Keshon was 42% with at least 1 make in the last 4 games. They just both had a bad night the same night at WVU.

The refs allowed the junking up of this game... that will not happen in KC or the big dance.
Totally agree! The NCAA tournament, if history serves well, seems to be called MUCH tighter than Big-12 games. That will make this WVU game much less meaningful towards "blue-printing" a plan to beat ISU.

Burn that f'n tape!

34.3% from 3 since Marquette, including an 0/4 vs Omaha and 0/3 vs WVU.
He probably won't ever be seen as an elite 3-point shooter, but he's capable.

I expect teams will always make everyone but Jones prove they can make one before really extending their defense. I also expect opponents to pay a price for doing so. Most games.

Sorry if this has been mentioned already but everyone keeps bringing up Nojus, Heise, D Wat needing to elevate our outside shooting.

Is it ok to talk about our two all conference guards shooting 31% and 30% from 3 while playing less minutes than last year? Tamin and Keshon NEED to shoot it better. Even more so with Milan out.

Unless I missed it this hardly has gotten mentioned.

Yes they both need to play better on offense. If our guard trio is elite as everyone says they should be able to adjust and step up on offense. Not just shooting but taking care of the ball as well.

Don't know if it's been mentioned - but on Two Guys they are talking about Small's long, step through bankshot early in the second half. I saw it live and watched it again this morning on replay - changing your pivot foot defintely helps. Refs suck. Carry on.

He/they made several low percentage shots like that with the shot clock expiring. Add that in with our poor shooting, the missed travel by Small toward the end and horrible officiating...it was just one of those stupid games where it took a million things to go wrong to lose and we did. If we play them again, we win by 20.

No reason to get upset about this loss. I called it in pre game that I had a bad feeling about this game. Even the great teams in tough conferences get like 5-7 losses a year so I expect the same with Iowa State, 1 maybe 2 losses at home and 4-5 on the road so I thought this would be a tough one to get. Just take the L and move on to the next one.
I struggle with this take.

My opinion:
1. We should expect to win every game at Hilton. Yes, every single one. Most of the teams that win conference titles (which I would consider to be “great” teams) rarely EVER lose at home. Our best squads in our lifetimes rarely lose at Hilton.
2. 5-7 losses!? That many losses may get you a top 4 seed in the conference tournament, but rarely will put you in a position to win the regular season crown. Even with 20 games.
3. Personally, I’m never OK with losing. I’m one of those dumb fans that wants to win every single game, badly. Do I understand logically we will lose some (and sometimes many) games? Yep. Doesn’t make it any less painful to lose. I think TJ and staff want to win every game too…
4. Since 1990, the national champion has had 7 or more losses on the season only 5 times. In contrast, the national champion since then has had 4 or less losses 18 times. That’s how freaking good you have to be to make a deep, deep run for a natty. Like our 2000 squad, which of course would have finished 35-4 had they not been screwed in the Michigan State game.
5. I do believe the loss Saturday proves some teaching moments and I am very optimistic that this team and staff (which has already proven to be damn good) will adjust. The Milan injury is really tough, and what Saturday showed me personally is that our floor with him out is lower than I thought it would be. As I have stated numerous times in this thread already, I did not actually believe we were capable of playing that badly for an entire game. So while that’s a tiny bit concerning, it’s only our 2nd loss in the year and we have every opportunity to still win a ton of games and prove we’re among the best in the country. The macro view of our squad is still extremely impressive and I absolutely love this team. I’m so excited to see us up against AZ, KU, and Houston in road matchups. Our conference title hopes will be dictated by those games.

It seems like, what I've noticed through the years, in NCAAT games, officials let things go for a bit early, maybe to gauge flow and tendencies, then adjust frequency of fouls based on some of that. Occasionally they'll tighten a little.

Perhaps it's my imagination and, even if it's somewhat accurate, probably can't make a blanket statement.

In the past, I've also noticed that if an Ivy League ref crew is calling the game, it can get way too nit-picky.

That would help as well. Just feel like Keshon is the more talented offensive player so hoping he can regain some of that Maui Magic he had
Keshon is a great player. He is best in transition and attacking the rim. When teams clog up the lane it makes it very difficult for him. Many of our turnovers were trying to dribble in heavy traffic. That includes our bigs too.

I totally understand that and agree that's why he's struggled a bit. But great players adjust and I believe he will.

3 Guys before the Game, a quality podcast by WVU top media with insider access, broke down the game. One telling stat--WVU had a 19-2 advantage on fast break points against the 15th ranked team in that category! WVU was 12th, so it was good on good, but WVU won that category.

I commented on that in real time. It was 100% a travel.

It was Jerry West Day for both the Men’s and Women’s games. They had these statues for sale. It was pretty cool to see his entire family there as WVU honored him retiring the number 44 in all sports.
