Am I wrong with cheering for these outcomes next weekend?

Iowa State over ASU (obviously)
Clemson over SMU
Texas over Georgia
UNLV over Boise State
Oregon over Penn State
First of all, I was wrong about rooting for Clemson last week, but I did NOT anticipate Miami (Fla.) losing @ Syracuse. So, I am glad Carolina beat Clemson!

I think the best route this week is:

Iowa State :)
Clemson might help ISU get a BYE
Texas Might as well give Georgia # 3
UNLV might help ISU get a BYE
Oregon might as well give Penn State #2

This is the best scenario to get ISU to a BYE and / or move up in the rankings a bit for the first round.

That being said, at the end of the day, all that matters is that Iowa State wins!

Let's Go State!

Iowa State over Arizona State
Clemson over SMU
UNLV over Boise

If the above occurs, I think there is a strong likelihold Iowa State ends up with the #3 seed and a first round bye. Critical for at minimum one of Clemson or UNLV to win and I think Iowa State is in good position to secure a first round bye.

If that occurs, who does everyone want in the 2nd round? I say bring on Notre Dame!

I'm not so sure about that, they have been playing very well lately.

Assuming ISU does not get a bye, I’d much prefer to play in Eugene than Happy Valley based on weather and opponent strengths. I don’t know how Oregon vs Notre Dame would end up though.

It feels really likely the 5 seed with be Notre Dame or Penn St. depending on the outcome of the Big 10 title game. This weeks rankings should be:

1. Oregon
2. Texas
3. Penn St.
4. Notre Dame

I just can't see the committee keeping Penn St. ahead of Notre Dame if they lose and I can't see them dropping Oregon below Notre Dame if they lose, unless its a blowout.

(For those that don't follow as closely, the 3 and 4 seeds are going to be conference champions.)

Seems about right to me. Exception maybe being Penn State/Oregon. Oregon would assuredly be the 5 if they lose, so depends your feeling on preferred road trip if we won and got the 12 seed.

One caveat, Clemson/SMU my tune can change depending on the rankings tomorrow. If the committee keeps them ahead of ASU and Iowa State then I'm cheering for SMU to knock Clemson out of it.

If Boise wins on Friday, I think you want Clemson over SMU so we can bump up to the bye. Otherwise if UNLV wins, I think you want SMU to win so they won’t give the ACC another bid since we’d presumably get the remaining bye and would have an outside shot at an at large at that point (I know they claim they’re not going to penalize losses this week but I think they’d have a much harder time justifying Clemson in with another loss, and they’ve never been opposed to doing the exact opposite of what they said a week prior)..

The less ACC bids, the better- because they’re essentially our direct competition at this point moving forward in this landscape.

Just in terms of history and stadium persona

Notre Dame
Penn State
Oregon

Flip Penn State to the top of who I would want to play at in terms of winning the game. But would be fine with anywhere and I will try to be there regardless.

The only competition we have to making the CFP is ASU. Under no circumstances will we be in without a win to ASU. Only potential impact would be if we win and don’t get a bye, maybe we could jump SMU for the 11 seed.

I think you want Penn state regardless, when in doubt pick the team with the coach who is incapable of winning a big game

I do not want to play in a cold environment. Our passing game is suspect in the cold and PSU would eat up our running game. I’d take the odds against a better team in a warmer environment.

Id say we want every team that is a heavy underdog or has more losses than their opponent. I want chaos. Make it even harder for the committee. "Lets compare each teams losses but only after the date of November 1st"

I’m not suggesting we would, but teams like Colorado (ratings) or BYU (resume) might. As a conference, it’s about avoiding a precedent in the first year of playoff expansion that places us last in line. We’ve faced challenges since TCU’s exclusion in the playoff’s inaugural year, and getting two teams in now is vital for perception.

ESPN’s priority is keeping the ACC intact to avoid losing brands to the B1G and Fox, and our deal was only about getting UT/OU early—not about ensuring our long-term stability. The committee/CFP and broadcast coverage don’t exactly reflect any goodwill on their end for our future.
