Work gripe:

I have a co-worker that likes to walk up to my desk and stand there, regardless of how busy I am, until I attend to his question. I can be on the phone, typing frantically, and rifling through papers. He just stands there and stares.

Like most people, some issues of mine require time and attention and aren't necessarily resolved quickly. Regardless, he'll stand there and just stare at me while I'm trying to get a situation handled, taking zero social cues that I'm really busy at the moment.

Realizing that he's not going to go anywhere and getting tired of him staring and mouth-breathing, I'll look up at him to acknowledge his presence with a clear "go ahead but please be quick" look when I address him. Instead of trying to be succinct, he has to stammer around, say "I've got a question for you" followed by "I might know the answer to it" or "I'm not sure if you know the answer" or some other hem-hawing Hugh Grant in a 90's rom-com ramble before I have to interject with a much more stern "What do you need" to jar the broken record and get him back on track.

He's a nice guy and I've been able to keep my composure, but it's grating on me. And it's not like he doesn't DM or E-mail me and get quick responses.

I've always been taught that violence is not the answer, but I feel like it could still be very satisfying.
As soon as he starts hovering acknowledge him with, "I am very busy so send me an email with your issue and I'll get it in the queue." then go right back to work.

It drives me crazy when I wait my turn at a business or other place and then the phone rings and the person on the phone is suddenly first in line. Put them on hold and help me since I have been patiently waiting for my turn.

Ok, fine. I'll try your way

I'll move "violence" to plan B

Yank the drawer open really quick and nut shot him with your elbow and say sorry, didn’t notice you. After a couple he will quit.

My favorite was someone would come up to my desk at 12:15 and see me eating and ask me if I'm having lunch. Then after I say yes they ask me to look at something for them

I used to put a sign "back at 1.00p" on my door, close it, and turn off the lights, and people would peer through side windows to see if I was in there, then start knocking to be let in. Their excuse was "well, you're there, aren't you?".
Next up was going down to the cubby with tables and chairs at the far end of the hall to eat my lunch there, nose in a book. People walking by would stop to chat, and I don't like talking & eating, so my lunch would not get eaten, and my book would not get read. Plus, clients from within the department eventually figured out where I was.
My last option was getting in my car, driving over to the ISC parking lot and trying to find shade under one of those sad little trees, and eating lunch there.

I AM SO GLAD I'M RETIRED NOW AND MY TIME IS MY OWN!!!

Get yourself one of those 5 ft or so cattle prods and give him a little jolt when he hangs around a little to close/long. I'm guessing after the 1st one or two zaps he'll learn to leave and come back after you pull the prod out.

@coolerifyoudid , have you noticed that some of us here in RTT struggle with the definition of "non-violent"?
I guess you can take KCs route cooler, may be just as effective. Every time he stands there, don’t say anything but stand up and give him a big old bear hug and say “man, I love it when you stop by”. Then let go but stand in that uncomfortable close range. He will either leave you alone after a couple times or ask you on a date.

A shout out to @Ms3r4ISU for hooking me up with VB tkts this evening. The ladies played well and swept TT. It was well attended a strong 80% or better attendance. Good VB and a enthusiastic crowd made for a nice evening. Swung by the downtown Hyvee and picked some we will pizza and looked for some West O blood round but it was unavailable at hyvee and sold out of Cyclone Liquors.
It was a good evening.

Sitting on a system upgrade for a while. These guys are clueless, it shouldn't be this difficult if you have a decent plan

I didn't see the game last night but I'm going to guess the game thread was off the charts on its toxicity level
I got invited to play euchre last night so I actually didn't end up watching the game. Had it on my phone but wasn't paying attention. I got home to catch the last 2 minutes. I haven't read any of the game threads this year.

Oh and
