Probably the kicker or maybe there was a mistake in operations involved with special teams. I think I remember Matt losing it on the special teams coordinator in a previous game.
I watched Sama's run one frame at a time and Hufford just pulls him out of the hands of the Houstan player and pushes down the field on his way.

Abu is obviously a home run threat, but I’d rather see Hansen or Jackson in situations where we need a yard or two
I agree but he also did much better just hitting the hole this game. If he can shed his propencity to turn a 2 yard gain into a 2 yard loss, he will be really good. Like a quarterback who refuses to throw the ball away he needs to just take what is there.

That’s also right at the release and he’s still moving forward with his entire body beyond 3 yards. He was easily past while the ball was in the air.

If I remember it was supposed to be a quick pass but it was covered and Higgens improvised. Probably an RPO and the OL were blocking for the run.

It was the Iowa game. He was fairly animated. I wonder if he was still pissed about Barrett being too far downfield the play before

61 had a bad game. Penalties and every play that was blown up, it was his guy in the backfield disrupting things.
Yet he had the best blocking on Sama's long TD run (collapsed the back side & took 2 defenders out) On the illegal downfield call, I'd wager he held when he threw the defender to the ground & had he not been so aggressive & not even engaged, he would have avoided any penalty. However, given our OL play of recent seasons, I welcome the aggressiveness.

The offense wasn't great, but again:
  • good UH defense
  • offense doesn't travel as well as defense
  • first long road trip for all

As underwhelming as most of that game felt, they won it. They played better as the game went on. Lots to learn from on tape.

This team played like a C/C+ overall, and won by 20, on the road. That's not terrible, not at all. But they will have to be better at WV, and at KU, etc.

Yeah, it was the right call, though I am wondering if that play was an RPO. If it was, that happens from time to time as the linemen are kind of guessing what is happening behind them.

It was an RPO but the initial quick throw wasn't there so Rocco had to hold it a little longer which then allowed the lineman to get to far down field.

Definitely looked that way. Not sure if OL have something of a count in their head to go downfield after the initial block. If so, you could see how it happened.

I like that Mouser seems to like running it more. Manning seemed to go away from it even Purdy was really good at making those reads and throwing a decisive strike.

RPO has got to be a real ***** to defend as a LB or safety.

Felt like I was watching an Iowa game. Offense kept grinding. Defense was a wall. Keep pounding until they break.

Need to be able to win multiple ways because this offense isn't good enough to just blow teams out of the water every game.

Main difference is that we have a Higgins and they don't.

Yes, this was the kind of win Campbell is just pining for. We broke them.

I think Rocco must have been having a shoulder issue. Someone mentioned he fell hard on it in the Arkansas State game. After one attempt early on, I don't think we even tried to throw it downfield. My guess is he was limited, and Houston defense picked up on this and knew we weren't going deep. Hopefully it's not a long-term thing.
I was at the game. Rocco is not injured. He made some really good throws in the second half. Houston's defense is legit and was pumped up last night. The metrics going into this game confirmed UH having a pretty stout defense. I really think the key to this game was ISU's offense in the first half, while struggling a bit, they took care of the ball. One turnover in that first half could have flipped this game completely.
