Every single IE personality and Hines picked ISU to win by at least 27 and all expected ISU to score over 35. ISU wins 21-3 and you think it's "bizarre" some people are disappointed. It's factually correct to say this game didn't go how most expected (including Vegas).

Sports are unpredictable.

And, Travis Hines?

Sure are. The point remains it's not bizarre to be disappointed by this performance.

It was a carbon copy of most CMC era openers following a surprising 7 win season.
I gguessI don't know what people were expecting.

It's pretty easy to see what some were expecting. Including those who cover the program on a daily basis.

Yeah and I'm not sure why any of them would do that unless it gave automatic talking points for next week.

Oh, wait.

Iowa State ran 48 plays, one of the lowest amounts in last decade. The reactions seem a bit dramatic to me. Was a low drive, low play game that Iowa State won comfortably. Maybe I’m an optimist.

Brent, I definitely appreciate your work with the program, and your required reactions. With that said, none of us here have those same constraints.

You saying it was a "low drive, low play game" definitely doesn't tell the whole story...at all. In fact its extremely disingenuous. The only reason it was a low play game was because it was as poor of a showing on 3rd down defense from ISU as I've seen in years from this defense. I'd honestly like to know how many 22 play drives there were across all of college football last year. We just absolutely COULD NOT get stops.

This game was not comfortable. North Dakota was not going away, and we only won because of their missed opportunities, NOT because we were controlling the game.

Our LBs have to greatly improve next week if we want to have a chance. They were completely missing their keys yoday which let the ND OLine (who was very inexperienced) continuously control the 2nd level.

I trust in our coaches and I feel this is probably just another variable solidifying the "ISU always starts slow" narrative. With that said.... when it's SO easy to see our our obvious deficiencies in week one, it IS always hard to think they can get incredibly better in one week. Lucky for us we've seen extreme improvements between weeks before. Here's hoping for another one before Iowa!!!

ISU’s win probability via espn never got below 89%. Very disingenuous to say it was not comfortable

Dude, if you are this upset because you’re basing it off the predictions by those picks, that’s on you. CF really needs people to stop taking sports reporters as gospel. I trust people on this board when it comes X’s and O’s more than anyone on that list.

A reminder of who and what we are. Best to temper expectations and remember, a successful season for us is 7-6. Hate to say it, but iowa is going to kick our teeth in next week. Glad I'll be out of the state where no one gives a sh*t about intra-Iowa athletics.

Amid all the hand wringing today, the bright spot is that we have a stud at QB, the most important position on the field. He’s got to NFL receivers to throw to and and NFL tight end who didn’t even get a touch today. Sure the defense is a work in progress but Rocco is gonna ball out this year and it’s going to be fun.

History has shown that the results of the first game has no bearing on the results of the Iowa game.

What does have bearing is:

Turnovers, gulp.
Special teams, gulp
OL play, gulp

So are you saying ISU is a poor man's version of Colorado? :)

I could understand being a little underwhelmed. But people are panicking over winning by 3 scores. (Likely 4 if Jontez Williams catches that pass)

Might have been me or maybe the heat, but was that game nearly unwatchable from a live, in the stadium flow perspective?

The number of TV breaks seemed crazy. I know TV is king but holy hell is it killing the game experience with the stadium.

That really only seemed like a two drive stretch in the first half. Other than that he was fantastic.
Ya and one of those longer throws to the sidelines he was expecting him (Green if I remember right) to continue towards the boundary. Rocco was fine. The big throw to Noel was a bad decision but it worked.

What makes this game hard to judge is that ND pretty much took a quarter away from the game. Iowa State was almost scoring on 50% of our drives. We touched the ball 8 times but the last two times we were more focused on running the clock out. I personally think the second to last drive would've been a touch down if we weren't focused on using ND's timeouts.

I'm more concerned we couldn't get the defense off the field but at least they bent and didn't break.

I've been waiting years for us to pass on first down, and I felt we did that a lot and we even followed up a first down pass with another pass which to me I thought was unheard of.

I liked that we came out aggressive and said we have the best two players on the field (Noel, Higgins) then proceeded to prove it.
