I think it's still mostly hooking up, but some end up in relationships that way.

I think Bumble has expanded its business model specifically to look for friends...plutonic non sexual friends...and Tinder probably doesn't want to give up that space entirely. I don't use Bumble but I know people who have found people on there to go hiking/shopping/hang out and it's not remotely a date, not even with the m/f sex they are attracted to.

I just finished the Ashley Madison documentary on Netflix. It blows my mind guys pay money to potentially ruin their lives to talk to AI bots.

I read a study recently (can't find source) that had an astonishingly high percentage of the "female" users on these sites as bots. I mean it was something like 85% of the "active" user-base level. I don't doubt there are legit users and legit hookups or even relationships formed, but that appears to be the very small minority.

I haven't been in the dating game for 10 years now but it was like that back then. The only ones I had any luck on were the free sites. Match was a total scam, lots of fake profiles and bots messaging you, then completely dissappear when you decided to pay for the service. I assume most of the pay sites are still like that.

That documentary was something else. I vaguely remembered the data breach, but didn't pay attention to everything else at the time. It was eye opening.

Not exactly sure.

Now there are sites to make friends? One thing to find a mate, but if you can’t make friends in every day life….. I don’t know.
