Long time before the season, but man this team is deep, athletic, and extremely talented. I haven’t felt this good about Iowa state wrestlings potential in a long time. If everything works out with the lineup, I think we can challenge for 2nd this year. 165 is our weak weight, but the staff has developed guys before! Is it November yet??

Edit: added Redding at 141 as an option. He’s had a good offseason and could compete for the spot

Thought I saw in a previous post that someone said Durbin stated Chittum has a good frame for 65. Could we see him go 65 next year and have ech, swiderski, paniro, and chittum all in a row to sort out that issue?

I think we are done, but if an impact guys shows up, all bets are off!!!
Thanks. I understand plans change.

I think we’ll see Chittum and Swiderski redshirt. And man 49-57 with AE and Paniro. That does leave a question at either 33 or 41 depending on what E Frost does. Ideally Frost stays at 33 and then we’re solid at 41 with J Frost or Redding.

Long time before the season obviously and so much can change. But these guys will keep making each other better this offseason and the staff will continue to develop and find ways to improve the roster. One thing I’ve learned is Dresser is never satisfied and will keep building the program to a place where we can consistently challenge for trophies.

Don’t take this as me complaining one bit, but it is a kinda wild that a good 165er didn’t wanna come in and fill Carr’s spot while getting to work in the room with him. Again I’m not faulting the staff, we had some good visitors, just kinda funny the way things worked out. I think Euton could surprise some people though and if that’s our weakest spot, then that’s a helluva lineup.

I know with the joy on getting Chittum there was a sentiment that he wouldn't be here for the long haul. Is that still the case?

Long time reader first time poster!

This lineup with one change for me!

149: Swiderski
157: Johnson
Let Cody Chittum Redshirt and focus in on Folkstyle for a whole year!
Paniro's best spot is at 49. He loses much of his strength and explosive advantage at 57. Plus, he appears to be 5''5" tall so I am not sure how that will translate against bigger guys.

I dont think that was ever the sentiment. I think that was more off base speculation based on his high school days. A few different high schools, committed to Minnesota, de-committed and committed to Iowa, left Iowa after greyshirting to come to Ames. So some people just assume that that means he'd keep on moving around at some point, but I don't think we have any indication of that being the case.

In fairness, Carroll is a very similar situation. I think he went to 3 high schools, committed to Illinois, flipped his commitment to Penn, then flipped again to Ok State. Now redshirted a year at Ok State before transferring to us. We seem to end up being a very good home for guys who have struggled to find the right fit for them.

From what I have heard about the new Cuban at 125 I fully expect him to be in the line-up at the end of the year. I could see KD sending him to every Open in the first couple of months to get mat wrestling experience but I fully expect him to be the guy going into Big XII's.

I think there were three transfers that would have been clear upgrades at 165.

Hamiti - wanted to bump to 174 rather than staying at 165
Amine - lost out to Ok State, probably for some real cash
Barraclough - went back home to Utah, more than wrestling in that decision

It would have been nice to have one to fill in that spot, but beyond those three there wasn't someone who'd move the need more than seeing what Euton/Rojas can do IMO
