Neither of us changed anything for withholding on our paychecks. We think it's because we're now forced to use the same filing status for Iowa as for federal. In the past, we used different for state because it was better financially for us. Thus the "thanks." We now no longer have that choice.
Oh yes, that got me too. "married filing jointly" and "married filing separately on a joint return". Also, I think I use to do some itemized deductions at the state level. Hopefully next year will be easier.

We also had to use the standard deduction for the first time in a really long time, for both federal and state. That was kind of a bummer - go through all the forms, etc. and then find out none of that mattered.

Just saw Axios has a playlist for the eclipse, so those of us going nowhere tomorrow (pun intended) still can feel connected to the rest of the sun-watching world ;)
Remember on The A Team when they hypnotized BA to pass out when they said a key word so they could get him on planes and helicopters easier. They used the word 'eclipse' but during a fire fight someone yelled at him to throw them "the clips" but BA heard "eclipse". Hilarity ensued.

*This is just the kind of totally worthless **** that is swimming around in my brain. But I have a devil of a time remembering the names of the people I met at a work meeting before the meeting is even over.

I got a small refund from federal and had to pay into state. I have an extra $400 a month taken out of my paycheck to help with federal. I couldn't figure out how to get a little extra held for the state
Went back and figured out how to withhold some extra for the state as well so I updated an addition $25 per check. Hopefully that prevents me from having to pay into the state next year

Ok, eclipse sucked here. It got darker but that was it.

If a self check register at dollar general says card only and no cash, would you feed cash into it? One line running at this place and this woman decides she is going to use self check (says 5 or less) with her 30 items and then pay (when it says cards only no cash) with cash. She was owed 9.24 in change. It actually spit out the 9 bucks, but everyone stood in line until a worker showed up for her to get her 24 cents. Some people just need to wear a “I am an idiot” shirt so we know.
Am I the only one on here who isn't the least bit surprised this happened at a Dollar General? Probably could have left that tidbit out of there and I still would have known where it happened.

Filed yesterday and we owe Iowa taxes for the first time in I don't know how many years. Our state and federal have never been "close" but with a federal refund, the 2023 discrepancy is mind-blowing. Thanks, Iowa legislators.
I thought I was going to owe the IRS and Minnesota both until I got to the part where I could declare daughter's tuition.

So I am getting $6 back from the State. What do you guys think I should spend it on?

Getting a hair cut.
No, really...just cutting one hair.

Side note...I think Velo is bored today, based on post volume!

Actually I have been pretty damned busy since they had a failure at the building last night and I have been trying to get a contractor in on an emergency basis. Have talked to 4 contractors: one looked at it today, one is looking at it tomorrow, one hemmed and hawed when I said I needed them to look at it today or tomorrow and the fourth said, "We don't do that kind of work." Of course for the process they want me to have 3 quotes from their double secret probation list.

Then I had to get a photographer in to take pictures of a previous project. Of course the place was a mess so I was cleaning it up and making it look presentable so he could get decent pics. Of course everyone I knew who had some of the keys I needed were out today. It took me almost an hour to track keys down.

Then I had one of the bosses show me a project he wants me to get done - make a storeroom into office space. Don't know about that...

Then I had to check in on another project. They are trying to fit some square pegs into our round holes. I think we have a solution and they said they were glad I was there to work it out.

Earlier I was thanking some people for helping me through our emergency since I knew this wasn't how they expected to be using their day. One of them said I was good to work with because I always come prepared with good information; called me a Rockstar. That's the best thing anyone has called me all month by a long shot - i.e. not a four letter word...

So yeah, I guess kind of bored.

;)

Same hear. But my haircut is done pretty quickly. My daughters now tell me that I part my hair down the middle just like I did in high school except that now the part is just really big.
Yeah, you better not be paying full price.

I keep complaining to my barber about all of the grey hair. I ask her if she can cut all of the grey out and she tells me that I probably don't want her to do that.

Did I tell you guys how she got distracted a few cuts ago. She took the guard off the clippers and set them down. When she was ready to continue she picked them up and took out a huge swath forgetting to put the new guard on. I got a little more of a cut then I bargained for that time. She was surprised I didn't get mad...
1. It's not like I'm paying for the cut. She's doing me a favor.
2. Is getting mad going to make the hair instantly grow back?
3. She is holding scissors near my ears and eyes.

Did you just let her finish shaving her name in your hair?

Yeah, you probably will safely not be getting the work since it is $12-13k.
