What would cause someone to start a thread asking what would cause TJ to move?

Just relax and be thankful for what we have. I'm sure Pollard is well aware of the situation and doing everything possible to hold onto TJ. Why waste energy fretting over something for which you have no control?
It's a discussion board. No harm discussing.

I'm relaxed. I'm relaxed. I'm relaxed. :D

This is just the same lazy sports journalism we see over and over. Been happening with CMC for years. General formula, big brand school has an opening, lazy reporter finds a list of 5-8 coaches having success at non blue blood schools and writes an article naming them top candidates. Zero research, zero sources, just nonsensical click bait.

TJ isn't going anywhere. He doesn't have Fred's weird NBA fetish. He is going to be here as long as ISU wants him.

I guess it depends on how you view these lists: is it 'who is on the likely list to replace a coach' or 'who is likely on the short list of these ADs to call'.

From the latter perspective, I think its reasonable that he end up on these lists because he'll still be on lists from other school's ends, and those ADs aren't doing their jobs if they don't at least make the call.

TJ won’t leave. These writers are often instructed they need to write an article about an existing coaching vacancy in or upcoming vacancy. These writers have absolutely no clue who would be interested in the job; they simply list coaches who have been with a program for a short time while having great success. Often times the writers will include a local candidate as well. It’s nothing more than click bait

TJ is coaching in the top conference, with one of the best fan bases, and in one of the best arenas. That’s not even considering his ties to ISU run deep.

The only thing I could see TJ leaving within 10 years is if/when Pollard retires and TJ and the new AD don’t see eye to eye. But I highly doubt that would ever occur

Argh! Michigan speculation here. Another reason to hate the B1G and SEC. They probably think they can just snap their fingers and get whatever coach they want. And they will have the money to back it up for many.

Juwan Howard – Michigan

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports
Season Record: 7-11
Overall Record: 86-59
The Juwan Howard era at Michigan has plummeted downhill since the team’s 23-5 season in 2020-21, and with multiple controversies surrounding the program and their head coach, it might already be time to pull the plug and start looking elsewhere for a new head man.
Administration needs to focus on landing an experienced coach and a strong recruiter, and if they can convince T.J. Otzelberger to leave Iowa State and the Big 12 they will be in a great position to return to prominence quickly.
Otzelberger has deep connections in the Midwest, has a strong reputation as a lead recruiter, and is a winning coach from his time at UNLV and now with the Cyclones in the loaded Big 12.
Replacement: T.J. Otzelberger (Iowa State)

Damn it Noah, keep that bad ju-ju away from us.

Probably the best reason I shouldn't have started this thread. Don't reward the guy and the article.

lol I guess this guy is creative
Jerome Tang to Texas
Darian DeVries to Oklahoma State

I guess Tang back to Texas would make sense but I don’t see Texas being interested in him. Maybe I’m wrong

Dear God. I know journalism is pretty much AI-generated click-bait at this point, but, still… tell me you don’t know anything about college basketball without telling me you don’t know anything about college basketball.

Although a Rodney Terry trade for Jerome Tang would be high comedy.

Bigger question is what does Michigan offer that Iowa State doesn’t?

Iowa State is more patient, in a better conference, more dedicated to basketball, doesn’t fire their coaches 2 years after a 23-5 season, and with TJ’s upcoming raise will be as competitive salary-wise as Michigan.

This is typical delusion based on big brand schools that have over-inflated views of themselves.

Its the same $hit in football with the likes of Nebraska.

If Michigan were a top destination they would not have hired a first time coach in Howard.

So long as Jamie keeps writing checks and we’re in reasonable position to succeed with NIL I don’t see him leaving. Especially not for a school like Michigan.

I feel this way about Campbell but even more so with TJ - he’s more interested in building a top program here than he is going to a bigger school with deeper pockets.

Well, we did take their coach once upon a time.

Michigan has a decent basketball history and a lot of money.

TJ won’t leave as long as we reward him and his staff, and Jamie sticks around. But MI shouldn’t have to struggle to find a good replacement

The people reading these articles aren't interested in hearing about guys on the ADs call list that are going to have a 5 minute thanks but no thanks phone call. They want to know the people who are likely to take an interview and accept an offer. If you can't write an article about who some of those people will be, then you should sit it out until you can.
