Kansas State fans are evidently super-proud of their two recent elite 8 runs, where they lost to a #11 seed then to a #9 seed. Maybe next time it will only be a #7 seed.

When ISU's best teams lose in the tourney it's to #1 seeds like Virginia and MSU and/or the eventual national champion like MSU and UConn.

What timeout/media timeout was it? Perhaps we can find some video.

Edit: Curious if it was the same under 8 timeout where everything started etc.
The cameras would have gotten it since the assistant coach was facing toward the baseline camera at one point and toward the main cameras as he continued screaming. But it was during a timeout so it wouldn't be on tv.

Then he went and told Tang who went off. I don't think Tang saw anything he just took that coaches word.

TJ is always very respectful and complimentary of other teams, their cosches, and their players.

But does anyone else feel like he was pouring it in really thick with his comments about KU yesterday?

Felt like maybe it was a subtle jab at KSU or at Tang. Like “this is how you conduct yourself as a head coach” or just to be complimentary of the one team KSU hates more than us

Probably overthinking this, but he seemed very deliberate in the praise he was heaping on KU.
Self is a great coach. And I think Self respects other coaches, including Otz. Self even had a few smiles and laughs during the game, such as holding up 4 fingers and smiling after King’s 4th three pointer made and Self was smiling and enjoying the dance by the cop during juicy wiggle.

But to answer your question, Otz and Self have a great deal of respect for each other

Self is always great to listen to in his post game. He is a good coach whether we want to hate him or not and he always gives credit where credit is due for the other team.

I mean let's face the facts here. If we were really wanting to know opposing teams in game huddle doodling .... Hilton is well equipped for multiple cameras deep in those rafters. To have someone seated in the stands trying to gather it with a cell phone is super risky and a horrible angle.
This whole thing is just stupid.

You realize we are doing the same thing KSU fans are doing right? We believe everything our coach says at his word without any proof. There is no way to prove that we weren't doing anything wrong. Surely someone caught the coach calling our student managers cheating mother ******* right?

I hate that fanbase and school more than Iowa's, but this whole thing is he said, she said.

Do I believe Tang is nuttier than squirrel poop? Yup. Would I trust TJ with my wife? Yup. Nobody but KSU believes Tang. We need to move on.

My post has more to do with him calling out an official, by name, than the crap with Iowa State. You cannot do that, and the league should suspend him for a game, minimum.

Also, IIRC CW reported it during the game about the K-State coaches and the student managers.

Well now we know why their primary color is purple.

They enjoy choking when faced with an easy opportunity to get a final four.

Yup and A LOT of his sideline antics are just an act. Working officials is an old school part of the game and that's what Self believes. Tang does it terribly and Otz does it by basically not doing it. But a lot of the Self antrics that rub people the wrong way are just his sideline persona that he drops outside the lines.

He's actually a pretty good guy. Maybe not the MOST humble guy, but not the worst by any means. And when you've hung that many banners, even at KU, you can make an argument hes earned a reasonable amount of hubris.

I went and read some of the other message boards about Kansas states accusations. All other teams are on our side and think Kansas State is a joke. The only fans that think something happened were the k state fans. So they are looking pretty stupid.

As they should.

The Connor Stalions situation was one where something unusual was being done with such relative consistency (man...it feels like they know our plays are coming) that it lead to some investigation which uncovered proof. The thing here is we already know what KU likes to do and even though we know that we weren't exactly defending their cuts very well. The accusation is so implausible and befuddling on so many levels that its simply absurd without proof.

If TJ or his staff were ever caught doing such a thing I'm not sure what's the more fireable part of the offense. The fact their was attempted cheating, or the fact they deemed the efforts behind the endeavor as a valuable use of their time. Both are incredibly stupid but the idea it would even aid your chances of winning seems more ridiculous to me.

Whatever. Tang is a clown and has been roasted accordingly.

Good lord. The has to be the most “want to have my cake and eat it too” situation I have ever seen.

The entire week has been KSU talking heads leveling baseless claims. It starts with allegations of racism and throwing things that ended up being false. It quickly transitions into creating a narrative the ISU is cheating — which is pretty clearly what Tang was saying during the game. As it relates to the cheating thing there’s really no evidence and most people quickly pointed out that the accusations make no logical or logistical sense. KSU continues to roll with the narrative and eventually larger media outlets pick it up and run stories. ISU refutes the claim emphatically, and now KSU wants to make it a thing about Tang never publicly saying anything and that TJ should keep private conversations private. Not to mention the same day ISU makes a statement Tang claims that refs were making fun of his players during a game, which seems pretty absurd at face value.

The whole thing is crazy. At some point they have to just stop moving the goal posts and admit they’ve been wrong. It’s not that hard to just admit Tang thought something was going on and was incorrect. Everyone would have and probably would accept that and move on, but instead they keep grasping at straws to somehow make ISU at fault.

Jay Wright mentioned that during the game after his T late in first half. Said watch how Bill goes from getting a T to totally calm and collected like nothing happened in about 30 seconds.

Self also was asked about it post game (if he thought it impacted the game). Basically said no. One free throw was made and we were already getting the ball back after the flagrant.

So yes -it is intentional and calculated. Would not do it at end of game when Tang did because he’s too f**king smart of a coach. He did it when impact was minimal. Probably thinking “I’ll give one or two points here going into half time if I can turn the tone of officiating for the second half”. It’s a calculated risk.

At the time the call was made and Self was given the T, he kept shouting it was a "bullsh*t" call. You could easily read his lips. But during the press conference, he said it may have been the correct call and that he'll have to review it. That just shows how he was simply trying to work the refs like most coaches do, although you don't see TJ trying to work the refs much.

Starting to see why he took so long to get a head coaching job.
