We're going to see a bunch of older coaches doing this.

Coaching and kissing booster asses was already two full time jobs now you've got to re-recruit your own team, get in the portal and deal with NIL. Guys just aren't going to do it.
It's wild Ferentz isn't retiring. He has to despise NIL, plus with the Iowa AD going over his head to fire his own son.

I think NIL is a huge reason Barta is gone. That Florida NIL dude made it no secret that Barta is an ass.

What makes Franklin a winning hire? Seriously. Not that he's a bad coach, but what's he done to earn the gig? Dabo has a national title. Some of the other guys are young climbers who have massive upside. Franklin would be about as 'meh' as it gets for a program like Bama.

I think both would be bad hires for Bama. Franklin can’t win any big games. And Dabo hasn’t fully adopted to the new age of CFB. The dude hasn’t embraced the portal…

My money is on Norvell or Franklin. Lanning etc. won't take the job. Alabama is not an elite job in the SEC once you remove the Saban of it all. Its recruiting ground and NIL capacity are worse than at least five conference opponents.

Norvell might want to GTFO of the ACC as it is. And Franklin may understand his days are numbered at PSU if he can never beat OSU or Michigan.
Alabama has a top 3-4 athletic budget in the country. It's an elite job.

Bear Bryant retired in 1982. It really wasn’t until Saban came in 25 years later that Bama recovered fully from Bryant’s departure. They had mediocre coaches intermingled with the disaster that Stallings brought the Tide from NCAA rules violations after a natty In the early 1990s. Bama’s drought in the years after Bryant brought the SEC down a notch.

Reading that Dabo's buyout is different for Bama as in higher?

I'd always thought Dabo is the call when this day came.
Me too. He's basically Saban minus 20 years on the clock. But NIL/transfers really throws a wrench in the works, and Dabo has been clear that he doesn't like that part of the game. And noticeably, Clemson has been in decline the past few years. I wonder if Bama will want a coach with more edge to him.

Problem with Dabo is that he refuses to use the portal and is very out spoken against NIL
It's interesting, he had a very challenging time financially growing up and while in college. Had to work multiple jobs during summers to afford tuition and rent, lived with his mom and a classmate in an off campus apartment because his mom couldn't afford her own place, he almost got booted because he couldn't pay his tuition bill. The guy really struggled, apparently seeing college players today being handed hundreds and thousands of dollars doesn't sit well.
