I see in the box score only 10 minutes went to players outside the top 7 in a 32 point win. Seems like this team is setting itself up to die in March. Getting back Ward should help but still I don't know why TJ doesn't get more players on the bench minutes in games like this.

They've played one game a week and don't play again for 10 days.

There's plenty of time to rest and recover.

Perimeter ball movement is much better than a month ago and is contributing to the second stat. ISU has been awesome at feeding the post against lesser talent which probably is the main reason behind the first one.

Despite all the new faces this year, this is an above average offensive team and above average defensive team I think. I want to get to the part of the schedule where we find out how well both hold up against stiffer competition. I think we are going to finish somewhere around 4-6 place in the league, just have to see how the ball bounces.

A top half finish would be really good.

Or you could give him more minutes in these types of games to help his development. Not saying he should be be getting 20 minutes. But three minutes? In a blowout against a garbage team? Same with Watson. If they expect both to be back next year I don't understand why they don't see at least 10 min in a game like this. A seven man rotation against Eastern Illinois in December before a holiday break doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

I'm not pissed or anything like that, and I trust Coach O. It's just strange to me.
Yea, I get it. We expected something different. It would be fun and maybe even encouraging to see those 2 getting more minutes and making the bench even deeper with experience. Like you said, it would be crazy not to trust TJ on how he is handling this. Could be any number of things going on - practice performance, school performance or just plain rising to the performance expected. I am just thankful that we are in a position where our success is dependent on one or 2 specific players

The team goes to Norman in two weeks and two games.

I don't know why it would be weird to tighten up rotations as the conference season looms.

Good thing we play in the best conference in America. We are going to have about 14 opportunities at Quad 1 wins over the next 19 games.

The numbers might say the conference is the best......but if true college BB as a whole just might be down this year. Oklahoma is good.........but no way top 10 good. Maybe not even top 25. Baylor, how the heck did they make their ranking...beating Seton Hall? Heck, Iowa did that.

It's quite a contrast when compared to the last two years and how many of those type of wins ISU had banked before conference play. More than likely ISU cannot afford a late January/early February swoon like last year and be comfortable making the dance.

Seton Hall did just beat UCONN.
The conference might not be as good as the last couple of years and still be the best. College basketball as a whole is down over the last several years and I don't see any great teams this year. Which makes it wide open and fun.

I understand that, I don't know why you wouldn't want to try and get the guys on the bench more minutes now. Helps in case of injuries during conference play and keeping everyone engaged. If this team is only 7-8 deep now against this competition I am concerned about our meat grinder conference schedule. Our fouls have been better to this point but I'm still not sure that we can stay out of foul trouble during conference play.

I was at the Seton Hall - UConn game. The Hall put the clamps on UConn. And they can get to the rim.

I also saw Baylor play live and they looked Top 15 to my eye at that point.

The Big12 will remain a gauntlet.

Recipe to beat us:

Don't turn the ball over.

Make your 3's

Make your jump shots

Defend the pick and roll.

Defend dribble penetration.

Force us into a half court offense.

How do you know the players aren't engaged or still being prepped in different ways?

I'm in the camp that wishes our sched was more difficult but the league play will make up for it and this season is sandwiched between last year's Nike tourney and next season's Maui.
Tough to complain too much.
We are 100% doing what we should be to this lower level teams.

Other teams seem to get a scare every now and then by these teams and we continue to piss-pound them.

That said, it's boring as hell to watch and the Hilton atmosphere is...not great.

You're the same guy that just said the starters need to be playing 25-30 minutes in blowouts to keep their conditioning up.

Now you turn right back around and say barely playing and running wind sprints before the Iowa game are sufficient for getting them up to "game speed"?

Lol, you make no sense sometimes .

We are going to get plenty of opportunity for close games and raucous crowds. I'm taking solace in the fact that TJ is keeping them engaged from buzzer to buzzer
