Jamie Pollard's advice to fans for Cy-Hawk? 'try to be at the gates by 1:45 p.m.'

Went through the west gates last week and have been a west gater for quite a few years now.
Can you walk there readily from the north lots, or is this a south lot only option? I'm in B-1 and it doesn't look like that would be very easy.

My last post on this topic was deleted for being political... fair enough.

But I will be interested to see the reception the students give Trump if he is introduced.
I would bet he will not be. AD would control that.

Why / how would Jamie even know there was an issue. He showed up hours early and I'm sure he got waived right in with no Ticket to have to scan. Plus he was getting to enjoy the game, probably from an air conditioned space.
I can admit me and those in my group were about 5 minutes behind our normal walk up to the stadium time, when a 7th grader in our group asked if we were going to miss kickoff. His Dad said nahh, we'll be good, I looked at the kid and said ooooh we're definitely missing kickoff. But the additional 45 minutes waiting at the North Gate was insult to injury. I had our 5 tickets loaded in my Google Wallet, NFC tap thing all ready to go, and had to listen to the roars of the crowd while trying not to lose my mind waiting in line. We knew we were running a little late, but man it sucked. Plus it seemed the lane dividers need extended out to Jack Trice Drive bc tons of people at the North Gates were cutting in from the sides. Managed to just get in and sat down to see Rocco squeeze it in on 4th and goal.
Because he is ultimately in charge of the event, although most minutia is delegated to some lacky I'm sure. I've actually run an outdoor event with over 100K attendees a day in an area not meant for that many people. You can bet I was constantly communicating with staff to see how entry/exit was going and if any obstacles or red tape needed to be removed. The sixish home football games are by far the biggest/most important events the athletic department puts on every year. A change like this warranty constant monitoring by leadership.

Agree with the problem of people cutting in. Another thing Jamie and staff should monitor and address.

I got to the north Gate at 12:35 and was in my seat for the coin toss. I think the heat fried some people's brains into thinking they were in line longer than they really were.
I pretty sure different portions of that line moved at significantly different speeds. Were you far left middle or right. Got stuck in far left myself and it didn't moved but a step every few minutes. Like I said heard the band while waiting, heard the kick, interception, kick etc sitting in pretty much the same spot. Bailed and walk to east gate to get in with 6 minutes left in the first quarter.

I was middle right. When I got to the front, there were people trying to download their tickets because their screenshots weren't working on the left side of the line.

Hmm yep guess you're right. For some reason I was thinking it had an impact on this game too. Guess time just flies when you're tailgating.
Nope you are right, old rules were 6 hours before kickoff or 6am whichever was greater. So yes last year you could have been in the lots for this 1pm game at 6am. Trust me I know as we would have been there at 6am like normal if we could have been.

Time will tell how strictly they stick to this policy long term. I do know for a fact that certain donors are getting paper tickets for the rest of the year to be used at any gate.
Because they requested them? Any ticket (public) can be used at any gate now.

I have no idea why you couldn't allow official embossed/watermarked tickets for entry but not printed barcodes. Just charge people a $10 'convenience' fee for requesting printed season tickets. (I get Ticketmaster is likely the sticking point)
And make them all go in the West gate.

I think the solution is pretty obvious - wear a black suit, black tie, sunglasses, put a wire in your ear and act like you own the place and you will be able to get in anywhere no questions asked.

/sarcasm, don't get arrested kiddies, federal crime is no joke
Or pretend you are a Pizza Pit delivery person and bring 10 empty boxes of pizza in and say these are for the secret service.

It sure would be nice to get rid of Ticket Master or at least find a competitor for them. They seem to have a monopoly.

110% agree with you. There's been times I've thought about going to a $20-30 event then their fees turn it into a 40 or 50 and I just say nope. Maybe those aren't the exact #s but it seems like they come close to doubling the cost of the event. I would think a 10% margin would be plenty.

You have to walk West to beach and then south and work your way through Reiman gardens. It’s about a one beer walk. Get some steps in, enjoy the stroll, and on most football Saturdays, walk right into the stadium.

Not a huge fan of crowds, or waiting in line with a crowd, which is why I take a walk around to the west gate.

This was my spot in line at 12:35, had already been on the bridge for at least 10 min by that point. Our group was not in the stadium by 1pm.

Yeah Gate 2 had some issues with the scanners failing. There were just some people exaggerating their wait at Gate 1.

Is gate 1 the north gate? It was less than impressive there was about 30 people ahead of me about 45 minutes before the game and it took at least 15 minutes to get to me my tap and go worked just fine though.

That leads to an entire different discussion - why does the AD even need ticketmaster? ISU owns the venue and the activities so why can't they just print their own tickets and sell them themselves?
There are others who provide the exact same service but I think you're grossly underestimating the work Ticketmaster's platform does. Writing a custom website to do the work their platform does would be a ridiculous undertaking.

Ticket marketplace
Seat location picking
Custom scanning hardware
Custom scanning software
Printing tickets is a ridiculous undertaking compared to clicking a button and everyone having their tickets
Supporting their own product

Frankly, if someone else could do it better, they would. I dont imagine the NFL or MLB loves giving Ticketmaster a shitload of money but they know they can't do it better.
