Recruiting this year has been down all the way around, not just in Iowa. I’m hoping the last two classes (which have been really good!) shine cause it doesn’t look like there will be a ton of contributors from this year’s class (I could be wrong).

I don’t think we need to beat Iowa in in-state recruiting every year, we just need to be competitive with them. Which we have been in the CMC era, excluding 2021 and this year.

Hard to argue it hasn't worked for them. Look at their record over the past 20 years.
Yes, it's worked out fine for them because they had Doyle developing the heck out of those kids. As far as their record over the last 20 years, look at their schedule.

I believe I saw that this year's ISU schedule was ranked the 8th most difficult and Iowa's schedule was ranked the 3rd easiest. And it seems to repeat year after year.

No doubt they benefit from an easy schedule a lot of years. They've still been consistently good though. The other Big Ten west teams have the same advantage and the only program that's been better in that division is Wisconsin.

I don't think he could commit here if he wanted to right now.
We quit recruiting him before he even took any OVs. And for anyone that says all fans say that when they lose a recruit, Iowa did the same.

2024 not great in general for ISU rankings wise...

I'll take 85.73 average rating if that is "not great" and a down year.

2015 was 82.37 and 2016 was 82.49

Have to account for the numbers creeping up every year but yes those were terrible classes. For example, in 2015 there were only 7 teams with average ratings over 90 now there is 19. And in the midpoint 2019 there were 15 over 90.

The current class is #53 and only looking to drop as schools below get more commits. There are zero schools above us with a lower average ranking and 16 schools below us with a better average ranking, meaning by average rating we are near 70 right now. I added the class rank in parenthesis.

Last 5 Class Avg Rating (Class Rank):
2023: 86.63 (42)
2022: 86.56 (39)
2021: 85.28 (59) - Covid only took 18 kids compared to 23-24 usual
2020: 85.11 (46)
2019: 85.66 (46)

Wherever I go, there I am.
Iowa State is 8-13 vs the Big Ten West in that span
Which included zero games against Illinois, Northwestern, and Purdue. And only what, maybe a single game against Rutgers and Minnesota (in bowls)?
And zero games against Nebraska after they fled to the B1G and imploded.
Gee, that sounds like a fair sample to base things on, Mr. Hok Troll.
Clearly you are/were a statistics major.

Be advised, sir, that this is not the ISR board. Please attempt to govern yourself accordingly.

I didn’t include Rutgers because they are not in the B10 West.

But if I did it would be 8-14

Which basically is what, Iowa 20 times and Minnesota in a bowl? And that also happens to be better than their winning percentage over the entirety of the Big 12 over the same period.

So I guess if you look at it that way, Iowa, as one of the top 2 teams in the Big 10 West, is equivalent to a bottom-half Big 12 team over the past 20 years. That seems about right, so I think you make a good point.

Last year was a nice reminder what a 3-6 Big 12 team (OU) playing a road game at a 3-6 Big 10 West team (Nebraska) looks like. It wasn't just that OU won, it was such a massive disparity that they could play as many times as you want and Nebraska wasn't winning. They were ridiculously overmatched.

I don't think anyone here is going to argue that ISU has been better. But trying to blow off being in what has literally been one of the two worst power conference divisions every year it has existed is pretty silly.

Well…this is kind of depressing….

Check out this article from Des Moines Register:

Ranking the top 50 Iowa high school football recruiting prospects in the 2024 class

It’s going to go in spurts, some years we will win some years they win. If we beat them this year next years class will swing our way

I can't read the article (paywall), but I'm guessing context would be important here to avoid rehashing the same tired ol' in-state recruiting arguments and unreasonable backlash.

Does the article really focus on the Top 50 recruits inside the state of Iowa? If so, that's a bit of a silly premise. Our state is not a hot bed of D1 football talent. Focus on Top 10 at most when considering how well our own school's staff is identifying talent that can make reasonable contributions at the D1 level.

In-State Commit History (Top 10):
2019:
Iowa State - 3, ToE - 5
2020: Iowa State - 4, ToE - 4
2021: Iowa State - 1, ToE - 5
2022: Iowa State - 4, ToE - 4
2023: Iowa State - 5, ToE - 2
2024: Yeah, crappy this year. A lot of talent this year in Kinnick's backyard + Jack Campbell's little bro.
2025: Looks like we're in on 6 of the Top 10, including Curvey's son
Looking forward to next years article talking about ISU dominating in state recruiting.

I don't know how many more opportunities we will have. With larger conferences, possibly more conference games, I don't expect the series to continue, at least not every year. Hope I'm wrong.
Agreed. I feel like we’re at the beginning of the end for the football game in the Cyhawk series. All of this conference realignment is going to bring this series to an end sooner rather than later. Enjoy it while it lasts. Iowa State hosting Arizona and Iowa at UCLA the second weekend in September will definitely be more interesting to watch….not.

Don't forget Iowa's annual schedule of cupcakes definitely give false perception that they are a good team. When that goes away, the in state battles will likely shift.

There might be 6 people in attendance for that one. Only 1 gate will be open and no concession stands will be operating.

Yeah, the Big Ten has already floated going to a ten game conference schedule after the expansion. I can't see the CyHawk surviving that, because Iowa won't give up a home game and ISU shouldn't agree to anything that isn't a home and home.
