QR codes

We just got a software program that enables us to do QR codes for all our products on the showroom floor. It will take a while, but it will save us a ton of time in updating pricing when costs change (because we won't, as the QR code refers back to whatever costs are in the software at that moment).

I would imagine that would help a restaurant so that they don't have to go through the expense of reprinting menus every time there is an increase.
And when they run out of something or otherwise change the menu, it's cheap and instant to update what's available.

Love the QR code so I don't have to handle a dirty menu. Even better are the restaurants that have it setup to order and pay through the QR code. More efficient and I don't have to talk to anyone

For the folks complaining about killing conversation, even when I'm reading a paper menu I'm not listening to you. I might occasionally raise my eyebrows and nod while you're talking, but your vocalizations are not getting processed. Once I've decided, I put my menu down and join the conversation.

Yeah it people can't just look at it like a menu and then put away their phone then they were probably going to be on their phone at dinner anyway

I get the convenience for the restaurant, but IMO it's at the cost of convenience for the customer. If you're going to force a digital menu on me, then provide a few tablets so I can properly view the menu, not fumble around my phone trying to view a janky PDF.

Ordering thru the McD app is so much easier, faster and cheaper.
It's cheaper? For real? We don't eat out much, but when we do McDonald's is one of the few places my wife can eat due to an intolerance to garlic and onion. McDonald's only seasons their french fries with salt and has specific fryers/oil just for them so they don't get contaminated. They also change their gloves on request.

I'm indifferent towards the QR code menus. It's nice to order what you want whenever you're ready. Not fondling a sticky grimy menu that hasn't been sanitized in 3 years is also nice. Then being able to pay when your done and just get up to go is super convenient.

However the most irritating thing about this is when the restaurant has a password locked wifi and they don't just print the password on the flyer with the QR code. It's also infuriating for all the people at the table to get their food at different times. It feels rude to start eating when nobody else has their food yet but I also don't want my food to get cold.

A couple minor changes could make the whole process much more user friendly.

Then they have to clean the tablets after each table turn, probably with specific cleaner.

I'm not aware of any places struggling because they have digital menus so it must be working just fine.

There's some unironically decent online only deals on McDonald's app. Usually it's geared toward multiple people.

I haven't seen any places where you actually order (or pay) with the QR code yet. Getting food at different times would definitely be annoying, I get that.

At Red Robin they have table-top kiosks for ordering and paying. It can also be used to request refills, and they have games that kids can play on the touch screen. That's a pretty slick solution. It has all the different card readers built in, and can even print a paper receipt when needed.

Here's my favorite lately...

Pull into the McDonald's drive-thru and the first question is, "Will you be ordering on the App?"
Um, no! I'm talking to you now, I'm thinking I'll be ordering through this microphone.

The app is awesome - especially if you have kids who order things custom. You just put it in yourself, pay securely, and give them a code. Literally all they do is ask you if you want a receipt and hand you your order, it's awesome.

In addition to the deals that were already mentioned, you also accrue points and get free crap with it. Our youngest loooooves McDonald's, and we ended up getting it after baseball games with undesirable amounts of regularity, and it was great to just start the order at the ball park and have it ready when we got there.

On the original topic - I'd much rather do the QR codes, assuming they have a mobile site that sizes accurately. No sticky menus covered in snot, etc., they can update as needed if out of an item, can add item of the day. It is way more convenient and environmentally friendly. Would I want it in a nice restaurant? Probably not - but kids aren't going to be snotting all over a paper menu at Django or something usually. At a burger place, 100% QR codes, please.

The QR code for menus has been happening for quite some time since Covid. What is new is scanning the QR code to pay at the table, which I find very helpful!
Same! I'm too impatient to wait for the server to bring the check (who in most cases is already overloaded with patrons because nobody has enough help).

This would be my ideal solution. That or bring a tablet with the menu. And also as @Jeremy mentioned they should have pictures of the meals if it's digital. I hate when um thinking it will come out one way then it's totally different.

I feel I get out pretty often to places, and I've yet to seen a QR menu/order/payment method anywhere so can't really judge yet.

I hate ice and I just checked all of the apps. None other than McDonalds allows you to say no ice. Honestly that’s been my big hold up from ordering online.

Yeah, I think *maybe* Chick-Fil-A allows you to do light ice? Those are the two best fast food fountain soda, anyway.

Like the OP, QR codes haven't come to the rock I'm apparently living under. I assume the food at different times is because you are essentially doing separate checks and each person/group orders from their own phone. If you and your SO go out to eat you can order both meals at the same time from one phone and it works like "normal", correct?

Sounds like they need the QR code at each table to be different so multiple people ordering from the same table get grouped together.
