Iowa State enrollment #'s to answer cyclonenum1's question:
21,004 undergraduates

Percent of female undergraduates: 42 %
Percent of male undergraduates: 56 %

What are the other 2%! I didnt know there were that many he/shes at ISU

Wow...I did not realize the male / female ratio still sucked that bad (at least from the perspective of the males).

Tell me about it. When I was in school I would go to FAC, see about 95% dudes, and like the rest of them slam 50 cent beers down. We would sit around and wonder why there were no women out, but would they want to come out and see this? Nah, I didn't think so...

Most of the girls are partnered up before school even starts... You have to wait untill about Thanksgiving when the first series of breakups happens...

I was lucky my first two years. Went to a JC in Gainesville that had 16,000 students and about 80% female, almost all waiting to get into UF, then you had 40,000 UF students, around 58% female... Big change when I transfered to Ames...

Not sure I'd be proud of #3. It just means everyone who lives in NE applies there, gets in, and goes there.

My advice if you want the girls in Iowa, head up to UNI. I visit my friends(girls no suprise) and I swear 3/4 of the campus is female. On the negative side I'd have to say the partying is weaker than what I experience normally at ISU or Wartburg.

there's also the summer school route into ISU - you pass 1 summer school class and you're in ... it's not exactly "prestigious" to be accepted to any of the state schools, or about 98% of the colleges in the country. You got the coin (or the loan) and you're in.

That thing is the most complicated admissions process I've ever seen. God it was easy to send that I was #2 in my class (48) and they send the paper that said accepted.

Part of the idea behind it is that some people get grades in high school that they don't really deserve (no one I know...) and when they get to ISU, they need to take the remedial, no-credit, catch-up classes just to be where they should have been before they got here. That makes students and their parents mad, and ends up often costing more money because it takes longer to graduate. So, by including more college readiness variables, they're not relying solely on grades and class rank.

Besides, the new formula is just simple math.

ha, good one. however, i did get in and would have had to pay tuition.

both me and my gf got into ISU on full ride scholarships.

so basically i saved about $25,000 coming to ISU.

Out of curiousity which scholarship(s) were you awarded? I'm kind of in the same boat in that ISU became my college choice because of the financial aid they presented with the Hixson scholarship. Yet, I also wanted to come here regardless. Are you from Iowa originally?

Being a state school ISU is required to accept anyone that is in the top half of their graduation high school class.

Is that just an Iowa law? In the U Missouri system ACT/SAT scores will filter out certain campuses you get accepted into. Rolla is the hardest with the average being a 28 or 29 (which is why I went to ISU) and then comes the UMKC and UMSL and finally the catch all in Columbia.

im actually from southeast NE, Falls City. I got the George Washington Carver Scholarship, essentially because i carried a 4.0 coming out of high school and i am 1/4 native american.

ISU was in my top 3 in no particular order in was NU, ISU, and Florida St. But when it came down to it ISU offered Full ride and the other two only offered half tuition. which i was going to go ahead and go to NU but then my gf also got the GWC scholly and i was sold. Turns out ISU is a pretty decent school and overall i am happy with the choice, however i am heavily considering transferring to FSU to finish the degree as im not a fan of the northern weather (although today was nice).
