Our local paper reports juvenile traffic issues. Not sure if they are messing up or if it is because traffic goes to magistrate and not juvenile court.

The paper in our area does not give names of juveniles on traffic reports so it might depend on the area.

Really? There are dozens of accidents each day that aren’t on the news. I’m not trying to hide Jack’s involvement - just saying it doesnt need to be plastered everywhere just because of his dad.

Actually it’s not being plastered anywhere BECAUSE of who his Dad is.

I feel like it shouldn’t be treated any different depending on who the driver is.

Just looking at what is publicly available on Iowa Courts online, I didn’t see anything I could identify as charges in this case but you could see a speeding ticket many years ago for one of his brothers when he was 17. That would imply that a traffic charge would be public info. I suppose they could be considering criminal charges but that doesn’t seem likely with what little we know from the negligible reporting.

That was a special case and I believe they were tried as adults because it was incredibly heinous.
I don't think the law is that arbitrary based on a recent case in eastern Iowa where juveniles were involved in a murder. Based on new reports, sounds like juveniles are automatically tried as adults if they are charged in a murder. The juvenile's lawyers can then petition the court to have their case switched to juvenile court.

In this traffic death, could the law only require the driver's name to be released when charged are filed. So it might not matter if driver is adult or juvenile.

Minors brutally killed a teacher in Fairfield and their names were released....
Their names were released before they were tried as adults BUT Iowa law allows the release of a minors name in felony cases or something like that.

#NotALaywer - if there was cell phone use involved, a driver could face a felony conviction with up to 10 years in prison. I suspect that they are waiting on information from the cell carrier (and toxicology reports) before determining what, if any, charges to file.

In France, the law states that the driver will be charged if s/he hits a pedestrian in the crosswalk ("entre les clous").

So, most French drivers go fast enough at all times so they can knock people OUT of the crosswalk if needed.

(yeah, old French joke, older than Mean Dean and myself combined)
Are you sure that your combined ages don't precede the invention of the horseless carriage?

If that happened in Ames, Birch and Randy would be all over it. Eickholt, Franisdaman, WHO-TV sports crew, Neck Beard, Iowa Loud, Dochterman, and that drunk Iowa lawyer on "Go Iowa Awesome" are quiet as a mouse on this, thus they lose their press creditials and will miss their chin slapping Iowa coaches ball sacks if they say anything.

Any chance the Iowa band stays away from Ames? We are probably due for months of revisiting the many capital offenses that occurred at JTS that somehow eluded all security cameras. But not much even reporting this poor man’s death.
