You get one restaurant that’s closed in Ames to come back…

Anyone remember the burger joint in the basement below Peoples Drug at Lincoln Way and Welch circa 1984. Can't recall the name. Didn't last long but had a decent burger.

And then there was a place up the street called Suds-n-Duds. If I remember right, you could drink and dine while getting your laundry done.

Minskys when it was behind Cy Roost.
O’Malleys, Rupert Jones song (Pina Coloda song) was written for owner of O’Malleys.
Palma’s Steakhouse
The Boiler in the 70’s, great ISU supporters - especially wrestling.
Lunch box was a treasure to locals, while the truck stop was a treasure to all.
BeeVee’s was the 70’s version on BBops.

Was The Boiler way out west on Lincoln Way? I was thinking of that one too.

Taco Time.

I miss my crisp meat burritos and Bavaria Cream Empanadas!
Yeah I’d go with this but the good Taco Time, not what it was the last few years it was open. Crisp meat burrito and crustos.

Special mention to West Cyde Wings and the El Gordo from Pancheros on Welch.

Was that by Tip Top? My parents used to talk about that and when Hickory Park was over that area. (I remember when HP was Bonanza)
Kitty corner from it, SW corner of intersection.

Sat about 12 people

One menu item each day for 3.25

Kicker was a white piece of bread with smiley face impression

Wonderful home cooked meal

Not exactly sure.
One of my favorites. There were 3 other Chinese restaurants around Welch at that time. One next to Home Team, Golden Wok, and another next to Tazzles (sp).
One by tazzles moved to DaVincis location. Name is slipping me now. 2.99 for any meal.

I would take Battles or DaVinci's.

Although Palmeros maybe, where else can you get two large pizzas for $5 in a double box that by the time you got home (only take out) the box was destroyed by the grease. Their 4-6 months was glorious.

What was the Thai place on a second floor on the west side of Welch, early '90s? A bunch of us used to go there somewhat regularly on our lunch break. Some days the angry chicken was very angry.

I only went to O’Malleys 1 or 2 times. While I miss Battles it was less than a bbq joint and more of a smoked meat spot. George’s I still get in Nevada.

I’d probably vote Taco Time due to how often I went there and it being incredibly hard to replicate the crisp meat.

Honorable mention Vesuvius. Ames pizza is trash but this place was pretty decent.

West side? Little Taipei was second floor on the east side.

Rocky Rococo's, I loved their pizza. $1.50 pitchers after class was great also.

The Broiler.
And if that was still there, Pazzescos wouldn't have existed, and if Pazzescos wouldn't have existed, Oddfellows wouldn't have either.
