Stories from that dump of a stadium

Among group of QC Times pictures there was one of an Iowa fan being led by police in handcuffs from the stands. Don't know if that was related to throwing stuff on field, fight, or something else?

Not exactly sure.

Maybe he is the one who got junk punched. For kicking the woman.

I doubt it, the ISU fans left after the fight and the Iowa guy was still there. We were pretty much the top row of the north endzone; I didn't see any security around. Very possible he fought someone else later though... very thin skin

And seemingly NOTHING was done or said about it! At least I didn't hear anything said from the BTN announcers. The officials apparently didn't do anything. Nothing from the stadium announcer, I don't think.

You can't let stuff like that go.

So yeah, John and Eric saw it and talked about it. But nothing still on Iowa's side? Strong culture over there if not.

I re-ran it about 10x. Couldn't believe it each time. Looked like a beer can to me.

What does it take for them do do something? Hit a player?

Has Iowa said anything about that kind of behavior, publically, yet?

I agree with this. Them throwing stuff at the ref and/or players... I'm surprised the refs didn't stop play to somehow get a handle on the situation. Honestly if it weren't for the horrible calls that went against ISU at the very end of the game, I think fans would have been even more pissed off.

I found it funny that they did the MBB big ten tourney rings presentation at this game. Against a team that went further and a team that their fans always told CT championships are meaningless.

Couple Iowa fans in front of us were laughing about it also.

Iowa City is the armpit of the whole state with how those drunks act. In the late Hayden Fry years things were getting thrown at the Iowa sideline by the Iowa fans all the time. They will eat their own eventually. And Kirk and Brian love their degenerate fans and their behavior, but now the fans will turn on them just like they did with Hayden Fry. This program will soon be cursed if they arent careful.
I actually like IC quite a bit. The town is pretty neat, but not on gameday. On gameday the Hell Mouth opens in Iowa City.

She was more concerned about her oldest who had had a few when a dude was getting ready to fight him since he only waved about 2/3rds of the song. Dude was sitting in the ISU group and wanting to fight several people. Even another drunk Iowa kid who was in the wrong seats. The drunk Iowa kid immediately befriended us after the tuff guy went at him the first time.
Does Iowa have electronic tickets? Or are they all paper?

The wave did seem to go on for an uncomfortable amount of time. I did say something along the lines of "how long do we do this for?"

Our tickets were electronic transferred to us from our season ticket holder friend that we were with.

How did you know he/she was an Iowa fan? Did they randomly yell go hawks at a painting that had a lot of cardinal in it?
I was wearing an ISU shirt and she was a vendor in a kiosk. She gave a little good-natured ribbing and I responded likewise. She was disappointed that she'd be stuck at the fair until 6 and would have to watch the game on her phone.

Your description of the events would be more believable.

A couple more observations:

1. There's always quite a few ISU fans on gameday in Iowa City, but it felt like there were a ton there on Saturday. Quite a few of us in the stadium as well. We represented well.

2. The tailgating and stadium experience for me was actually pretty good. There were some good-natured jabs back and forth, but nothing crazy at all. I really think the SDSU game the week before let a lot of the air out of the balloon for Hawk fans and most of the ones I talked to had zero faith their offense could do anything and they would likely lose the game. Turns out they were right! The anger and hate they usually have for ISU fans was directed more at Kirk/Brian Ferentz and Petras.

3. Quick little story from after the game. I made my way down to the first row behind the Iowa bench. The team grabbed the trophy from the end zone and walked it back across the field to their locker room. There were a few ISU players hanging behind the team and one was X. There was about 15 of us in the front row and we all yelled at X and he came running over to meet all of us. If anyone deserved a victory lap it's that guy. Just an awesome moment in Kinnick!

I've had the opportunity to meet and interact with both X and Noel a couple of times. They present to me as first-class dudes. They are beyond easy to root hard for.

Never been to a game at Kinnick... never will. I would imagine the Hok fans would have been much worse if they had higher expectations or they were ranked. They clearly know they are not very good, so I'm guessing the crowd was a bit more tempered.

I've seen it before at the old Soldier Field in the early 90s when the Bears were still relevant... their fans were supreme Aholes to the opposing team's fans that showed up.

People just seem to lose their $hit sometimes when their team is supposed to be good/great.
