I would say Wisconsin is a much better state than Iowa, the problem with Wisconsin is once again, people want to live there moreso than Iowa, so once again you get the population that comes with such a gorgeous state. The biggest downside of Iowa is lack of land for sale for non farming purposes, so much of the land is tillable and sky high prices. Iowa is simply a good place because so few besides natives are like, hey lets move to Iowa, and there just isnt enough land available to grow quickly.

When we lived in DC area in the 1980’s, I missed the convenience of electronic payments. Somehow Iowa was ahead of the curve on things like that.

When we brought my oldest back from California after his first year of college, shortly after crossing the river, he got choked up and said he never noticed before how green everything was.

On Wisconsin
How easy it is to get to Iowa state games and to see my family.

Besides that nothing really, although I live in Wisconsin so it’s not like I’ve left the Midwest/an agricultural state.

I left IA in '96 and moved to Richmond, VA, then to Atlanta, GA, and now have been in Dallas, TX since '07.

1) I miss IA from mid-May through October.
2) I miss pheasant hunting.
3) I miss easy access to campus and being at every football game.
4) I miss high school friends who are still in the area.
5) I miss AE cottage cheese.
6) I miss tenderloin sandwiches.
7) I miss cousins/relatives still in the area and hate how the family drifted apart after Grandma died.

8) I miss sleeping with the windows open
8b) especially during a good Iowa thunderstorm
9) I miss MaidRite sandwiches
10) I hate winter... I hate winter so f'ng much... BUT... I miss the first snow of winter.
11) I miss Christmas time in Iowa more than anywhere I've ever lived. Maybe partly just because of the reminiscing in my mind about Christmas as a kid, but Christmas in Iowa just hits different.
12) I miss the county fair, and I miss the State Fair.
13) I miss green lawns.
14) I miss the Ledges during the Fall.
15) Because of @coolerifyoudid... cruzin 'n boozin on gravel roads in IA is the best.

My post was going to be AE Dairy as well.

So, I'll go a unique "route." I appreciate that Iowa for the most part is road "grid based." I know there are exceptions for Iowa (mainly bodies of water) but a lot of States have some real effed up roads.

Speaking of AE, how about when they use to have their cottage cheese in the wax containers or whatever they were prior to plastic......those were the days!

I can see this being problematic if you have a stroller or are in a group of people with a deficit of some sort, mental or physical. I'd probably feel like punching someone if my wife or kids were rushed, or me while I tend to them.
People are understanding for injured/disabled/kids etc. It's more the people that are just meandering along in groups while taking up most of the sidewalk, or just stopping dead in the middle of the sidewalk to look at something. They always seem surprised to find out there's someone two steps behind them. And someone two steps behind that person. And so on.

If you need to stop, step out of the way. It's kind of like if you were driving down a moderately busy the street and you needed to stop for some reason. Would you just slam on your breaks and stop wherever or would you pull over to get out of the way of traffic? Same concept on a busy city sidewalk.

Winter is okay until January 1. Then January and February seem like they last 6 months.

Minneapolis
I've lived in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oregon, Minnesota, and now West Virginia. The big cities don't have the kindness Iowans have. Minnesota and, believe it or not, West Virginia to a greater degree are the only people comparable to Iowans.
Living in Minnesota, I will say that the people in Minnesota are very nice. They aren't quite as welcoming as Iowa but these are probably my two favorite places, people-wise, in the country.

Don’t insult us by lumping us in with those Viking people.
We Viking people don't want to be lumped with you hicks either. It's because we're all arrogant.

I live in Iowa and as much as I'd like to head south I enjoy being 45 minutes from Hilton/Jack Trice and a golf course that's $750 a year for a membership - not getting that anywhere else and those are my two favorite past times.

We live in Omaha and Minneapolis, then moved back to DSM area last year.

Things I'm enjoying since moving back:

1) Having college friends right down the road. We made friends in other cities, but the relationships just weren't the same.
2) Being able to talk with fellow Cyclones about sports
3) Traffic. Wasn't a problem in Omaha, but Minneapolis sucked. I never got used to thinking about traffic when considering a cross-town trip. Can't count how many times I got stuck in traffic unexpectedly.

I like winter too for a similar reason. It just helps create a cycle of 4 distinct seasons that serve a purpose.

The Sioux (some of the original Iowans) called winter "the time of cleansing". It kills things off and allows for a full rebirth in the spring. That whole process feels good to me.

I've come to appreciate the slow down our family gets to experience during winter. Activities are balls to the wall Spring, Summer, and Fall.

The way it goes from oppressively sticky and still, to cold and breezy right before a big storm.

Also, following distance. In Iowa you think you got cut off is someone doesn't give you 2 full car lengths before pulling in front of you. Anywhere else (especially big cities) 2 feet between bumpers is considered polite!

Anything short of a collision is pretty damn polite...
