Show some respect to Aretha people.

And a man I heard in person at some ISU commencements, Simon Estes.

And a woman there just for an amazing range, Christina Aguilera.

And a unique sound, Janis Joplin.

Some of my other faves already mentioned: James Taylor, Bing Crosby, Diana Ross, Stevie Nicks, and if I am trying to karaoke, Whitney Houston.

And gee, how could I forget the woman who can sing anything, Kelly Clarkson.

Axl Rose had the widest vocal range of popular singers.

I'm a fan of David Bowie and Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star fame

That's an interesting list, although looking through my first thought is where the hell is Chris Cornell? Dude had incredible range. Guess he's not famous enough for that list?

Also, kind of disagree with the premise of the article that range indicates the best technical singer, but whatever. Cool list to look at nonetheless.

This is why you shouldn't use vocal range in determining best voice IMO.

Sure.... Mariah Carey can go really high.... but for me it sounds awful and makes my ears hurt when she does it. It's not pleasing to listen to at all IMO. Same with Axl Rose.

I love the mention of Aimee Mann..... love listening to her voice.
