Re-doing B1, and adding 350 parking spaces around Stephens, Fisher and Scheman.

We noticed it over the weekend when we went to the Alton Brown show at Stephens. No one ever talked about this - even when I brought it up with colleagues -- kind of like it was something snuck in the whole proposal. Even though it wasn't snuck in. It was always there. Looked bare and sad, with some trees already cut down. Here's an info link https://www.museums.iastate.edu/about/news/

B1-F was brought to the Regents at the same time as the G7/RV lot proposal, which would probably explain why B1-F didn't get more publicity.

If you're interested in more than just concrete and blacktop...

With the expansion of parking lots B1 and F at the Iowa State Center, FPM will transplant trees from the area this week. They are being moved north and west of the current location, just outside the work zone. The lots north of Scheman Building and west of Fisher Theater are being expanded into an L-shaped lot that adds 380 parking stalls to the corner.

The biggest landscaping project over the summer will surround the pedestrian bridge over University Boulevard east of Jack Trice Stadium. The gateway project features an elevated walkway to the stadium's east concourse to create a safe pedestrian route between the stadium and parking.

"It is a significant planting project that has over 250 trees going in at that site," Steiner said. "There also are plans to put perennial shrub beds and flowering trees underneath the bridge on both sides."

The project is scheduled to be completed in time for the season-opening football game against Southeast Missouri on Sept. 3.
In the Spring, the flowering trees and shrubs around campus are one of the most breathtaking features about Iowa State, imo.

Since JP asked for control of the complex a couple years, Wendy gave it to him.

Behind the NE Concourse, it appears that a walkway or some other structure is being put in place? Connected to the bridge project? Does anyone know what that is?

Yes, a new walkway/ramp outside of the stadium to connect the bridge to the north. Trying to find the renderings. Interesting idea. Will see how it turns out.

Anyone in Ames able to tell if the supports have stairs going to the ground level? If not seems like that is a missed opportunity for people who just want to cross safely and go to other tailgates instead of straight into the stadium.

What is this original rendering from...when was it that they showed the new orientation of the Pollard and Light district going north and south between Hilton and Trice vs the original orientation going east and west. I would like to see these, even I have seen this referenced but never seen the original renderings that updated the plans. I do like the north/south orientation better as I think it makes more sense to the area.

But everything I look up and all the renderings I find are from the original plan where it is oriented east and west.

The Pollard video from January(?) 2021 showed the N/S orientation -- and the new lots around Scheman/Stephens, 3 months before they went to the BOR.

The parking picture I believe is a screen grab from the latest Cyclone Club/ticket update video.

You can see the stairs when you drive by on University.

I'd bet they probably do it at night, but given the relatively short spans and I'm guessing the limited number of girders (probably 5 of them) they could do it on a weeknight and not really affect traffic too much. A good girder setting crew averages a beam every 15 minutes. Figure an hour for setup, 1.5 hrs to set, 1 hour to secure, an hour to teardown the crane. Maybe a 4-5 hour event.

Honestly, if the city lets them they could just close Elwood between 4th and 16th and do it during the day as well. Probably do it between 9AM and 3 PM so you don't affect rush hour traffic in Ames.
“Rush hour traffic in Ames.” lol

Just close the street for the day and reroute people up Mortenson or S. 16th. Whatever further work they need to do, they can just close half of University and make it a 2 lane road for that stretch.

I wonder what the purpose of the ramp they're building is. Obviously, the new east gate is going to be on the upper level. But why do you need handicap access to it? The north and south gates have ramps inside to get to the stadium.

Maybe to increase exiting capacity to the North from the east gate, get some of the west sections to exit around the Suckup and out to the north? Do know the NW exit is packed when leaving the stadium, since mostly the west exit has been shut off, unless you go south and up to Beach.
