Iowa Starting Line and KCCI have some reporting up on this.

For some reason these layoffs were not reported to the state, as layoffs of more than 25 people are required to be. Maybe they skated on some technicality, like designing the layoffs in such a way that it skirted the notification law. That's what someone at ISU did with mass layoffs a few years ago. Sleazy as hell.
Dwight Vredenburg must be rolling over in his grave.

I guess they have to find money for Caitlyn Clark somewhere

I saw the Hy-Vee commercial for the first time this weekend. Coincidentally enough, I had a group near my office talking about why Hy-Vee is bragging about being open on Sundays, as in "well, yeah, we knew that already, what's the big deal?" After explaining to them the jist behind Fareway being closed on Sundays, it was a little clearer with kind of an "oh....kaaayyy" response. If you live in an area where Fareway isn't well-known, it comes off as confusing.

Yikes at this article.

"We started looking at where do we need to cut back in this office and shove people back out into retail," Edeker said in the video. "Our retail stores are the heart of Hy-Vee, and some people just simply see it being beneath them to work at the retail stores. I think it's crazy, and I think that it's offensive."

"Some people that we've moved out, we've offered them jobs," Edeker said in the video. "They don't want to take our jobs. They don't like our jobs. They don't want to work at retail, and if they don't want to work at retail, frankly, I don't want them to be a part of the company, and that's OK."

Yes, god forbid people who have degrees and careers in IT or marketing don't suddenly want to accept jobs that totally derail their career track. That is, apparently, "offensive" to him.

So I can expect to see Randy bagging my groceries sometime soon? Cool.

I only go to HyVee for wine and spirits and a few odds and ends. I think the increase in grocery prices have probably hurt them more than others. People have been watching their food budgets closer and HyVee is so much higher than everyone else, I'm sure even loyal shoppers to HyVee have been going elsewhere. I will run to HyVee some on Sunday in a pinch, but I fully support Fareway for the Sunday off policy and will still shop there regardless of that policy.

Yikes is right! My gosh, not only do they lay off a bunch of employees, but they trash them on the way out!

I'm not a Register subscriber so I don't know if the full video is there. But I've seen it and it's really something. I have no idea who's advising him or if he takes their advice, but anyone who thinks it's a good idea to attack laid off employees like that and thinks it helps them look better in the eyes of their employees, customers, or the public is a fool. His rant against KCCI is lunacy. He's a CEO who has no idea how the real world works.

I intentionally refrained from making any comments that direction. But yes, there could probably be a whole thread about that side of things.
I’m failing to see how this situation is political but I do not have access to the article.

Which is just insane. Hy-Vee has big time purchasing power since they run everything in and out of a distribution center. All of the costs connected to all of their poor business ventures continue to get passed down to their general grocery customers.

If you look at some of the recent decisions by Hy Vee that past few years, I don't think he has an idea business-wise either.

Randy is the guy that’s responsible for completely revamping the food court at hyvee and making it into the highly unprofitable market grill.

Yea, what's up the market grill thing? Or Wahlburgers? Was the old cafeteria-style court thing not profitable? We loved to go to Hy-Vee for the cafeteria-style restaurant, but the Market Grill change was a disaster. We went there once or twice with coupons, but even then, it wasn't worth making forever since they only had 1 or 2 servers for the whole place.
